Has anyone got a link to a CLI reference guide for the plusnet supplied TG582n.

There's some cli reference guides here, they have been extracted from the router by Alex (the site owner).
They are the ones ending with "v2.0.pdf.7z", the advantage is they also show hidden commands.

gatecrashing! IIRC there is one that allows event logs to be retained longer for viewing. Can someone point me to it, please?

Yeah, but I need to have some client running to receive it. I'd rather have the router simply write a text file to my hard drive on its own.

For the Thomson you need the following from a command prompt - make sure you are either in the directory you want to save the file, or specify the full pathname
telnet -f filename.txt 192.168.1.254

You could run a telnet script on a PC to issue Anotherone's command.
Automate it to run once every day or so, save the result and tidy up the with sed.
