Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Just had an incoming call which was answered on about 4 rings.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

It's highly possible the Test Head might not have been upgraded (as it's a 20CN exchange), all the more reason to push it!
[quote author= BT Wholesale]CIDT will be rolled out to most exchanges by June 2012.
Problem is I can't find any definition of  "most"  Roll_eyes
PS. When I mentioned the Avg SNRM plotting, I was meaning the DS SNRM as the US is normally flat on 20CN unless there's a sync drop (as per last post).

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

The downstream noise margin is pretty boring - I don't think adding the average will tell us anything extra!

It might do if you get a (starting) plot like the one in reply #77.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Fair point. I've only seen that once - if I do see it again I'll turn the average plot on.

You might just as well turn it on anyway, it won't detract from or disrupt anything else.

Just been reading your TBB thread about this,  and I wondered whether your modem has the advanced ADSL setting for enabling "Impulse noise protection (phyRe)" ? - It might make a difference.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

AFAIK phy has no effect on 20CN and only on supported MSANs on 21CN. I've just read the TBB thread as well! Let's get this quite clear - Max Prem. has sod all to do with it.
Edit: Oh, and as far as "evidence" goes, there is plenty already.
1) Tell them you want an experienced faults agent to look at your problem, you are fed up with responses from agents that don't know what they are talking about 2) Tell them to look at the DLM Profile Data 3) Attached an extract from the modem/router logs to your ticket 4) Attach the largest example of CRC burst to the ticket 5) Attach sync plots with drops to the ticket and possibly SNRM ones as well

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

I had the same problem for many years and moving to 21CN uncapped upstream from capped made it a lot worse - from disconnecting occasionally it went to disconnecting every time - so MaxDSL could definitely make it worse
After many fault reports and engineer visits I finally got one who did a thorough job and switched the pair from the main cab to the exchange which looks as though it has fixed it (now on 21CN uncapped upstream with no problems).
I refer to the main cab because my connection is odd
It goes from the exchange to a distributor cab (there aren't many houses near it) and then to other cabs scattered around then to the properties.
Just to add - my drops were cause by loss of upstream sync due to errors and often it would resync with a lower upstream speed with a noise margin of 6dB
Whether this is relevant to your problem I have no idea

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Finally had a response that recognised the loss of sync without loss of PPP. They asked me to confirm that I'd had a later incoming call at a specific time which the log on my phone handset was able to do.
Now another waiting game!

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Another engineer been and gone. Again it was supposed to be an SFI but was the same engineer as the two previous visits. He retested the line and confirmed with his test equipment connected directly to the incoming wires that the line looks perfect until there is an incoming call when it racks up hundreds of CRC errors.
What has surprised me is how long after we finished messing about the DLM did it's thing again!

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Tried the ringing in lottery again. Call answered within minutes, got an excellent agent. Three minutes later SNR had completed and the noise margin was back to 6 and the sync speed back to normal.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

DLM really is a mystery! At about 8:20 this morning it decided to put interleaving on!
I've also upgraded to 10.2.2.B this morning.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

In your very first graph on this thread.....
I've seen that before on a 20CN line with an imminently failing E-side prior to its collapse - the way it would sometimes be smooth and suddenly switch to spiky mode.

Re: Sync drops when phone rings (subject was "Is this a record?)

Everywhere I've been before the spikey has been the normal and until we moved here I'd never seen the flat. Even when using a DG834v1 which only reported integer dB it varied a lot within around a 3dB band. Today it's been flatter than ever.
Something really odd about the interleaving on. It's synced with a 6.6dB margin where it always used to be dead on 6 and I'm seeing the highest sync speed I've ever seen on this line.
Increased noise margin and sync speed? Crazy
