Hi All
My connection was solid all day yesterday until about 18:00 when it went down and stayed down. My modem was saying that the line was up, adsl was fine but I was getting a timeout on ppoa.
This morning everything was up fine again and I'm wondering whether my modem is starting to go on the blink, or whether I have an intermittent fault at my exchange. I have noticed that it does tend to be a bit funny (my connection) and tends to go through spells of being solid as a rock and then up and down like an up and downy thing.

Morning Squish.
Sadly it's often difficult to determine whether a problem is down to your line or your router. The only thing you can really do is to try with a different router on your line and see how that performs for awhile.
From our perspective, your router has been online since about 6:30am when it last dropped the connection to the exchange.

Thanks James
From your end could you see if I disconnected or timed out? (Not sure what info it gives on account logins etc)

Hiya,
It's down as a "user request" which normally just means that your router dropped sync with the exchange. It's a fairly unhelpful message as it doesn't actually say what caused it to happen.

Yes, we do occasionally hear from customers whose internet connection has dropped
"User Request" is a very common connection report. It's nothing sinister as I suspect you are alluding to Jelv.

I'm not saying it's anything sinister, just trying to figure out what's going on. The common (and strange) feature here is that the modem didn't drop the line and remained in sync with the exchange - as you said "user request" usually means a loss of sync.
I've now enabled PPP logging on my netgear router and I'll see if that shows anything if it happens again.
