Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

Dave,
Have you tried any of the affected accounts from one of your test lines?

It's beginning to look like this problem affects more than just Pro/PAYG.
Plusnet Premium user with IP Profile of 7150 getting 774 Kbps at around mid-day.
Exchange is green

I was too.  But changed up to Pro based on your suggestions to rule out any kind of traffic management.

BUT I do suspect that MyBroadbandSpeed is within PN's network when testing.

Correct: it's in the same location as the thn gateways.
That's why it's the best one to use - Plusnet can hardly argue with the results from their own tester!

Ah, thanks for confirming, I hadn't got round to whois and tracerts.  I do think it's wise to do a combination of testing, as it allows you to see on-net and off-net speeds.  EG, is the backhaul to blame or inter-network routing.

Ive been searching through the status updates for anything relating to the time this fault started appearing, which, going by my last "good" speed test, appears to be on or around the 8th of December, and I found this one:
Quote
Planned Transit Maintenance - Tuesday 8th December 2.30pm-5.00pm
When's this work happening?
This afternoon, 8th December.
What does it affect?
The route some of your traffic takes across the Internet.
How long will it take?
About fifteen minutes.
What does the work involve?
We will be routing some customer traffic via a newly established peering arrangement.

Is there any more detail available, as this is looking the most likely suspect for now.

Doubt it's related TBH, that work involved advertising more routes over our newly established BT peering arrangement.

It appears as those affected are having all their traffic either classed as bronze, or unclassified at all - hence the enormous drop at peak time.

Has anybody verified this with a Wireshark capture?

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

Heres the requested test results.  I am starting to get enourmously p***ed off with this situation and PN's apparent inability to even admit the fault never mind fix it.  As a result of the almost constant messing around with the network, they have managed to completely screw up my connection (and many others it seems) and now we have to do all the jumping through hoops to try and track down the fault.

Just looked at some wireshark logs for you. For standard web browsing and downloading my traffic is classed as Gold (0x80), although the speed I'm is barely getting 30KB/s.
Dave asked for some other stats, here they are:

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

I dont know about anybody else, but I am growing incredibly tired of this now.  Can we at least see that PN acknowledge there is an issue, or are we all being treated as individual cases still?

I get the impression from Dave's post that PN realise there's some kind of problem, but don't yet know what connects those who suffer from it.

I think you have a totally different issue and that your BB has been affected by deterioration of your phone line, report it to BT even if it is "sort" of working as the noise won't do you BB profile any good

i think the way the speed was fine during the quiet times and  useless during busy periods was the same problem as many others but this does seem like a totally new issue. bt are coming out thursday.

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

@martin2006
Nothing in the PN network can affect the quality of your line or connection to the exchange. You need to confirm you can still hear the noise at the test socket with a corded phone. If it's not present, it's something to do with your setup.
If it's still there, phone your line provider (151 option 2 if BT), and go directly to speak to an adviser, do so whilst the noise is still present, and try and do so quickly before you receive an incoming call because ringing on the line can often clean a bad connection. Do not use any automated tests and do not mention the broadband this is a phone fault you are reporting, otherwise you'll get given the run around. Make sure the adviser can hear the noise, get them to confirm it and log it and log it as intermittent with the request that they ensure Openreach are made aware it's intermittent.
I'm assuming you may have already done this from your last post, but nevertheless put the above information in for the benefit of others.

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

hi, thanks for the reply, i have tested the master socket with a corded phone and its still there, but did dissappear  briefly, but until BT came out i had no phone at all. they are booked to come back thursday as they need access to the property to complete the reapir.
this must have occured during the day yesterday as in the morning my profile, speed test and telephone were all fine.
i have a filtered face plate on the master socket, with just one broadband line and one phone line coming off it.
my speeds were solid at around 6700 for weeks until the issue that everyone else has and my connection never drops unless i reboot
i wont be back up to speed for weeks while i wait for everything to settle so will watch this post from the sidelines
cheers
