Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

you need to do a bt speedtest to show if this is a PN or Exchange congestion issue, are you in one of the many snow bound locations which would mean many people at home on the internet leading to exchange congestion?

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

I'm a pro user and my speed has been poor for nearly 2 days... I usually get 6000kbps but I'm getting 1000-3000kbps at the mo (see BT test results below)...
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2230 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

Same here http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,82282.0.html  getting really annoying now I tried on 4 different gateways last night and am totally fed up, ironically I didnt have problems when everyone else did, mine must have been delayed.
I have an illness whereby I need to sleep at night in order to function in the daytime so this is playing hell with my health at the moment having to gateway hop into the early hours so it looks like I'll have to move on as I can't carry on like this  Sad
details for  info weather bright sunny and no snow or freezing cold I grant you but a great day, no exchange congestion
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4550 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps
 (so which one is right)
Estimated line speed:
8 - Checked on 2009-08-17 10:44:58
Current line speed:
7150
Currently connected to pcl-ag04 but will most probably have to hop later

which shows you have an exchange congestion problem, you would get a similar result with any ISP like PN that use BT for their ADSL connections.

Does it? Great, fair enough... but could you enlighten me as to how you deduce that from these results?Huh

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

so did this one ever get resolved, i dropped out the loop with a line fault, my speed and profile is back to normal according to bt speed test, ie 8128/7150 download but my speed and pings still go to pieces during the evening. i have seen a 7000 download and a 1500 download in a 12 hour period which is the same as its been for ages

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

i think mine starts going to bits around 6pm and then right through, it must just be the same as everyone gets which is traffic congestion, too many cars, not enough road

The BT speedtester is a speed test of data transfer over the BT network itself, so removing PN from the equation for a moment. If the BT speedtest gave a good result but a speedtest.net  test gave a poor or very different result it could indicate a PN problem.

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

If you are connected using your usual login it still goes over the Plusnet network - but PN put it in to the highest priority queue. Only if you use the BT test login does it completely avoid the PN network.

Jelv's correct, it only misses our network completely if the speedtester asks you to go through and do the second test logged in as a BT test user.

Before Christmas I probably had the best speed/response since moving to MK over 2 years ago. What happened?

Re: Sub-standard performance on Pro/PAYG

This is nothing to do with the subject being discussed in this topic because your IP Profile has gone down significantly. This topic is where although syncing at normal speeds and being able to get normal speeds at some times, during other times speeds are much reduced.
You have a problem with your connection to the exchange and your current sync speed indicates it is an ongoing issue. I suggest you start a separate topic giving the stats reported by the router and we'll help you work through it.
