Stuck at 400kbps

Hi
my Internet download speed has been stuck at a constant, near fixed 400kbps for at least 4 days.
Time of day makes no difference.
My router states sync is 8128 kbps and ip profile is 7150 Kbps
snr 7dB anybody got any ideas what is going on?
Master socket makes no difference.
Router states it has been up for past three days since trying other sockets and was stable before.
Thomson 585v7 and usually stays up between 3 and 12 days, so connection does drop occassionally.
But sync implies ok? Though I do have numerous fec errors.
So why 400kbps?

Thanks

What does https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate say?

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

run BT speedtest and check Current Line Speed here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed as well (Jelv types quicker than me)

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

Hi,
thanks for the link.
Line speed according to that currently 500 which says a lot.
Bt speedtest 2 days ago reported 400kbps while mentioning the ip profile of 7150.
So plusnet has cut my speed.
How long would I have to wait for it to come back?
Is it a case of just waiting with it sync at 8128 or do I need to prod someone at Pm
Thanks
ps usually get 2-5 Mbps

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

Results from link
Estimated line speed:
    5 - Checked on 2009-07-20 20:29:36
Current line speed:
    500
Results bt speedtest this evening
Download speedachieved during the test was - 424 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps
So I just sit it out and wait until my PN line speed rises again?  Undecided
Or do I have a problem that needs further investigation?

thanks for you help.

Give support a call or raise a ticket as it sounds as though something has gone a bit adrift

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

Hi Plantagenet,
Can you go into the router homepage and disconnect then reconnect. Once we've done this it may give the system the nudge it needs. I will check this afternoon and if it's still not moved then I'll get one of the faults team to pick up your ticket and call the suppliers about it.

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

Hi Jojo,
thanks, tried that just now although that appears to have made no difference to the line speed. I had already tried that a few days ago.  Huh
Please can you progress my ticket that I opened a few days back as I have had no response to my ticket. Hence why i asked yesterday evening on the forums for advice. Can I presume that the problem lies at a remote configuration end and not at mine end? Or is that difficult to say?
It just appears that it is a remote problem if my router syncs at 8128 and ip profile looks good at 7150 but plusnet site informs me 500kbps limit.
thanks in advance
FWIW: I had a similar issue back in September (which coincided with the PN Plan B event). Back then it was even worse stuck at ~10kbps.
It righted itself soon after PN returned to Plan A and I thought no more of it.

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

Hi Plantagenet,
I wouldn't have expected the speed to change from your reboot, what I'm hoping is that it will kick the DLM into action to lift your ip profile. So I'll check it later and see. If not I'll get someone to pick the ticket up. There's no point in me getting someone to pick it up now because they will only ask us to do this first. Don't worry though, I'll definitely get it sorted for you one way or another.

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

Jojo,
His IP Profile is already at 7150 - I'm not sure what you are expecting it to be lifted to? The problem is that the delta report either hasn't been sent to Plusnet or your systems have failed to process it. You just need to poke the PN stable rate, he then does a disconnect/reconnect and all will be well.

HI jelv,
That's what I though until I checked on BTW

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

We haven't seen one of those for a while! isn't this where the speeds shown on different BT systems are not the same? I can't remember what had to be done to sort them but I don't think it was easy. Sad
As he's already on the maximum profile with a full speed sync I think he'd have to force a lower speed sync (use a very long poor extension cable, use an unfiltered phone etc) to kick the BT systems in to seeing the changed speed.
In the meantime, can you not set his current line speed to that shown in the speed test and see if that restores his speed? I do suspect however that if that worked at some stage he'd get another delta which put his speed back down!

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

Hi jelv,
Both my line check and the delta reports are showing 500 at the moment, so it's not a mismatch, looks more like a stuck profile. I can only change the PN profile and that wouldn't make any difference while the BT profile is still set at 500.

Re: Stuck at 400kbps

So where is the 7150 in the BT speedtest coming from?

Hi jelv,
The ethersphere?
I'm as flummoxed about that as you are!
@plantagenet. When did you run the speed test?
