Stroud variable broadband speeds

Hi all ,
Anyone on here from or around Stroud GL5/6 ? If yes I wonder if you get the same sort of speed issues I get each week?
As is usual most weeks I'm currently down to 3mb/4mb download , usually around 11mb/12mb on what is supposed to be 17mb.
Cheers

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

Hi Donut,
When you say you get 3/4Mbps is the sync rate still high or does that drop too?

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

I'm afraid I've no idea what a sync rate is.
All I know isthat again as I type 'm still only gettng 3mb/4mb rather than my usual 11mb/12mb out of a paid for UP TO 20MB.

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

Sync rate is the connection rate as shown by your router
This should explain how to get it http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html
The other rate is that obtained by a speed test.
Could you run the BT speedtest (as described in the above link) at a time when the speeds have gone pear shaped

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

There was test on that router page and it came up with a red X by the internet.
Does that mean anything?

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

The red X against Internet is associated with the DNS server tests. This result is "normal" (for reasons unknown) - as for others my router has always shown that. Nothing to worry about.
Does a test at http://www.speedtest.net/ (choose a server in London) give the same low download speed?
Could you also check Current line speed on this Member Centre page shows 13.3Mbps.

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

That was probably the DNS check and no it doesn't mean anything.
Was that speed test wired or wireless
If you put your telephone number in here does it report that the VP capacity is  red, amber or green http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ and does clicking on Further Details give any more information
And just to rule out the last bit what does this give for your Current Line Speed https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

The value for current speed is what is hitting you.
I suggest waiting for this to be picked up in the morning as then you will get it fixed quickly

Re: Stroud variable broadband speeds

I posted in the 'No Internet' thread about rebooting, however having read this thread it looks like you have an intermittent connection problem, which could be a line fault, a modem/router fault, a filter fault, a wiring fault, or an exchange fault. None of these are under Plusnet's control (in other words changing ISP will make no difference). Can you hear any crackling noises on the line when making a phone call?
Also if the Current Line Speed at the Plusnet portal is showing 4.2Mb, you won't get speeds above that. Any speedtester that gives a speed above that is erroneous.
It would also be helpful if you could post your modem/router stats (up & down) as mentioned by Jim in reply #3.
