Re: Split from: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

We've estimated this to be in the region of 30TB over Tuesday to Thursday.
30TB represents over a third of our normal daily bandwidth.

Re: Split from: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

OK well my connections still awful, just like it has been the past few months so I'll give it till friday and if its still the same on friday and beyond then I guess we consider the fault is still active

Ello again
Well ive left it for 2 more days later than the day you said everything should be fine and im still unable to play online FPS, The guy on the ticket told me he had made some internal changes of some sort and that on Friday evening it should be fine, it didnt make a difference. I gave my router a reboot too just to make sure and its still the same

Re: Split from: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

Right
Right now Call of Duty 4 is playable, its deffinately not perfect but its somewhat playable.
I was interested to see what my ping response times would be at this moment to bbc.co.uk so I ran it 100 times to get a good look at it, and although its not spiking up to the 200s like the bad times, you can still clearly see even when my connection seems "ok", its still got a minor fault somewhere. I asked my friend to do the same and his response times from bbc were all within 3ms of each other. Mine however (ON A GOOD DAY) is still rather wild.
This may not help at all, but I wanted to add the information just incase it may help. These pings and tracerts below were all performed instantly after each other, yet theres still differences especially on the tracert.

Sorry - You posted when I wasn't in and i missed your forum post.
I don't think there's anything else we can do to improve your latency issues I'm afraid.  We've tried putting you on the best possible traffic management profile at both our and BTs end and have tried with and without interleaving turned on.  Without actual packet loss or dropping connections we wouldn't be able to get BT to investigate the issue.

Re: Split from: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

BT Engineer came to my house today. Are you able to read my post I just wrote on the Fault ticket 30327265 ? If not I'll copy and paste it here. Im very confused, could it be as simple as a router problem? But why would it be fine one minute and then dreadful the next etc.. but I dont even know what is possible : /

Re: Split from: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

"Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco NID (Network Interface Device). This is the place the telephone lines come into your home wiring, usually either in the basement or outside near the other utilitiy connections. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. All of the DSL analog side wiring should be CAT3 or better twisted pair from the telco service entrance to the DSL/ADSL modem. You can use one of the twisted pairs in CAT5 cable if you have that on hand. The splitter I've used in the past is the  Wilcom PS-36, it's good for any DSL/ADSL service worldwide.

This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues."

I would like to try this except I dont understand half of it. Do you? If so could you talk me through it if you think it could help? Thanks

Re: Split from: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

I worked an 11 hour day yesterday so I reckon I was entitled to go home Wink
I think that the NID is referring to the master socket.
What bizarrely worded instructions!  It simply seems to be saying to plug your router into the master socket via a filter and then plug your computer into your router.  It's very confusing though.
What did the engineer do yesterday?

Re: Split from: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

Well basically the main thing in short, was that both of the telephone sockets in my house was setup wrong.. I wish I knew the right words here.. you will know this, if you have two phone sockets (same number) and you use the test socket on one of them, it should disconnect the other.. well that wasnt happening here because I had two of the same main socket both with a test socket too so yeah  Cheesy He opened the socket in my room and said "whats that doing there" one of the wires was wrong also  Crazy he sorted then that then went to his van and got a new faceplate for it, then he checked the socket downstairs and so yeah both was setup properly to work with each other etc. When using test socket, the other disconnects now!
The other thing he did just to make sure.. was he rewired everything outside my house, after that ran a quiet noise check on both sockets and i heard myself, it was pure silent. He went the exchange and did a eclipse test, called me back said its absolutely fine now.

One noter too, I told him about the BT guy saying its not a wiring fault if problem still persists in the test socket. Engineer agrees with you, the BT callboy didnt have a clue  Shocked

Yeah and well thats about it.
BT = Tick!
Plusnet = Tick!
Next?  Cry
