Re: Speed stuck ?

I remember playing a few weeks back when interleaving had been turned back on, my ping was 25. Halfway through the game I started losing every one on one battle, I was shooting people and couldn't hit them. I logged out and sure enough my ping had gone from 25 to 35. I don't know about any other gamers but I can tell if my ping spikes or goes from 15 to 25, or 25 to 35.
You only have to look at my scoring graph, when my ping was 15 the line went up at over 45 degrees. When interleaving was turned back on and my ping went up to 25, my scoring graph started levelling out.
It doesn't matter at the moment because I uninstalled BFBC2 yesterday after reaching rank 50 but hopefully I can get my ping back down to 15 for BF3.

Re: Speed stuck ?

I have just pinged plus.net and got an average of 61. The other day when I pinged plus.net I got an average of 30.

I've just checked, and as of yesterday your interleaving is definitely set to fast path.

Whatever happened yesterday has made my connection worse  Sad

Re: Speed stuck ?

JamesM,
That output looks normal - what were your pings like at the time? If they were OK, next time the pings are poor run the pathping again to compare the results - it should highlight where the delays are occurring.
How far are you from London?

Re: Speed stuck ?

Thats what frustrates me, mine were as good as goldenadsl' pings until they went back up 10.
I am just North of Sheffield so maybe about 100 miles away from London.
Just been talking to my sister on the phone and I could here somebody on their phone keep hanging up as though they were trying to get a dial tone, my sister disappeared and I could hear somebody dialing a number. I went to look at my router and the red light was flashing. So a slow speed, a higher ping and now a crossed line. This is really starting to annoy me now.....................AGAIN. My speed was just staring to go back up, from 7.6 to 8.3, now I have a crossed line and my router went off, it has dropped to 7.6 again. BT fix your fucking problems you bunch of fucking cowboys.
Interleaving was turned off on the 28th after 4 weeks of waiting. Then when it had been turned off it looks like another order was put through to turn it off. This order looks like it completed on the 2nd and hence put my ping back up 40+%.
I really hate to ask this but can interleaving be turned back on, then back off again so I can get back down to 15 ping.

Re: Speed stuck ?

If there is cross-line interference on your phone sorting that out first is surely the way to go. Once that is sorted out and after monitoring for a few days interleaving issues can be looked into.

Re: Speed stuck ?

If you are getting a crossed line it's absolutely pointless trying to do anything with the broadband in the way of resolving your issues. The important thing is to report it as a phone (voice) fault to whoever you pay for your line rental and don't even mention broadband!

Re: Speed stuck ?

Everything is paid to Plusnet, wouldn't they have found the fault in one of my many reported faults ?
I have been hearing clicking on my phone for a while now but allways thought it was my Mums phone or my sisters,  I have never actually heard a dial tone before today though just clicking, so it looks like I have had a crossed line for who knows how long.

So how big a bearing would a crossed line have  on my error stats ?

Re: Speed stuck ?

If the crossed line causes the router to loose sync and disconnect it could kill your speeds. You should be aiming for several days at a time of continuous connection - that will maximise your IP profile and Plusnet Current line Speed. If the interference is not quite so bad it will cause errors which interleaving can correct. It might make the difference between your line needing interleaving or not - without interleaving it will need a much higher target noise margin and hence a slower sync to get over the interference.

Re: Speed stuck ?

What causes a crossed line, is it BT switching switches in the cabinet and putting 2 people on the same line so to speak. Before I asked to be switched to ADSL2+ I could go months without a disconnect.
If push came to shove I would rather have a low ping than higher speed if it came to that.
I have just been advised to try a different router and filter, which I am happy to do, but surely if I have a crossed line it is nothing to do with my equipment, rather BT should be looking at the exchange.

Re: Speed stuck ?

If you were moved from 20CN to 21CN your line will have been physically rewired at the exchange, so no prizes for guessing where the cause of the problem is most likely to be!
