Estimated line speed:7Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2011-04-10 16:15:23
Current line speed: 8 Mb
The estimated line speed has never changed for years and the current line speed started off at 21 when I switched to ADSL2+ then hovered around the 10 - 11 for a few weeks and now it won't go above 8.
My router is stable with the only disconnections being me trying to get my sync up by restarting approx every 72 hours. (apart from a phantom one 2 nights ago).
I have a Belkin 300N router which syncs faster than the supplied Thomson v7, so it isn't the router. Every 2 or 3 restarts I change either the filter or adsl cable, so I don't think it is either of those. I am plugged into the test socket at the moment which gave me a lower sync then when I was in the master socket. I have a fliter into the test socket, 1 m ADSL cable into the router, 10 m cat 6 cable into my computer.

It would have been useful to see if you're actually synching on ADSL2+(G.992.5) or is it just ADLS2(G.992.3). Is there anything on the router pages to indicate which ?
Quote I am plugged into the test socket at the moment which gave me a lower sync then when I was in the master socket.
That sounds a little odd, was that using the same filter ?

When I plugged into the test socket this time, it was using the same filter and adsl cable, it didn't sync considerably lower just about 500Kbps, which I guess could be just down to the time of day. Before I switched interleaving off I could drop about 2 to 3 Mbps every restart, then another restart would bring it back up again a few days later, then another restart would drop it agin by a couple of Mbps. Now though when I restart it stays around 9500 to 10000.
I am completely stumped, I have read differing reports on whether you gain or loose speed with uncapping the upload, I didn't realise I would loose over 3Mbps though.

I suspect that's the case. Its quite possible for the SNR to vary >3db from early morning to late evening and that could give anything up to 1Mb difference in synch.
Quote I did ask for interleaving to be turned off and the upload limit to be uncapped due to Gaming and uploading to my website.
That's odd because it looks like interleaving isn't off, your router is reporting FEC errors. It can't do Forward Error Correction if interleaving is off!.

I have been with Free-online since 1998 and never once had to bother anyone in tech or the forums. Since I have switched to ADSL2+ it seems I am in here every day. Change ?...... you can keep it.
I also have an option in member settings under connections to turn off interleaving, it still says it is on even though it is supposed to be off. Is this just a gimik ?
Ping has also been stable at 15 for 3 weeks (since interleaving was turned off) with a couple of 5's thrown in now and again, now I am hitting 24 and as high as 45 last night.

Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 8948 1203
Noise Margin 7 6
Output power(dBm) 12 20
Attenuation(dB) 29 16
Another restart, (with a disconnect from the server then restart router) and sync has dropped again. My mum's ADSL connection is faster then my ADSL2+ connection at the moment
After trawling through countless forums I have noticed there is something called "fast path", if interleaving is turned off, should it say "fast path" instead of "interleaved path"

I checked and it looks like BT did some work on my exchange around the 26th of June. Good on you BT looks like you actually made things worse.
Bt should start a new slogan campaign..............."Well it should work"
Come on Kingston communications, time to put BT to sleep.

Does this tally with the graph you have ?
Would it be possible for me to see the graph you have for my line drops.
Thanks.

Looks like the majority of the drops were on Saturday evening, there were quite a few then though so might not be so intermittent after all - unless your profile was lowered shortly after that flurry and the slower speeds have stabilised things.

The saturday restarts were just me trying anything to get back up to 12000 sync, my line has been stuck at 7600 speeds for 3 weeks regardless of the sync speed. At the moment since interleaving was turned off and my upstream uncapped I am averaging 9000 sync, sometimes 10000, sometimes 8000+. Before interleaving was turned off and my upstream uncapped I was averaging around 11500 sync. I was happy with the interleaving turned off because my ping went down to 15 from 35 but now it seems to be creeping back up again 25 at the moment but 45+ mostly for the last few days. I can see from the graph that all the restarts apart from the one in the early hours of Friday morning were me, leaving it connected for 72 hours, then restarting to try and get my sync back up to 12000. The Saturday ones were a bit of frustration creeping in, swapping to the Thomson to see if that made any difference now I have interleaving turned off which did sync lower, and gave a higher attenuation. I swapped filters and adsl cable to no avail. The only thing left for me to do now is get rid of the 10m cat 6 cable and go back to all my extensions when it synced at 13000+.
