Re: Speed keeps dropping

HI missisbeki,
Looks like the disconnection has given you a better sync rate, it's now 17499 so that will give you a profile of 15000 if it stays the same. As the rise is only a small percentage it can take longer to increase, possibly up to 120 hours of being constantly connected.

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Thanks for the reply odd thing is I didn't disconnect it. I have only just been able to get online now (have a child with autism so being kept busy) and went to do it just now when I noticed it had already disconnected.
Fingers crossed though that it does help, again will keep an eye on it.
Should I continue to disconnect once a day or leave it as it is?
Cheers

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Hi missisbeki,
Definitely don't disconnect, because your profile will not rise if you do.

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Just wanted to update.
Still having huge issues with the uploading interfering with things.
Earlier I was trying to upload some files and it just wouldn't upload, it caused xbox to lag out and pages wouldn't load up.
Speed in general seems slow even though speed test is at 9.7.
So basically can not do anything when uploading if it lets me do upload at all, starting to drive me a bit mental now as I need to upload things fairly often. I know I could avoid doing anything else while uploading but I shouldn't have to really.

Re: Speed keeps dropping

As suggested earlier you should ask for the upload to be uncapped - that should give you about 1000kbps upload speed
That may or may not fix the problem but it would certainly allow faster uploads

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Thanks can I ring up and ask for that or is it best to raise a ticket?

Re: Speed keeps dropping

If you call, they will probably just open a ticket which will get someone else to action it, however they're likely to poke it to the "right pool" of poeple, rather than you open ticket, PN staff reads it, prods it, and now its at the back of that "pool".
Currently looks like there is no queue on the phone Smiley

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Just rang through and they are opening a ticket I think to get it uncapped so will see how that goes, they did say they can't see anything wrong and everything looks fine, so I did try to explain about going from 13mb to 9mb and the 9 seeming slower than the 6 we used to have but don't think it made much difference.
Will see how it goes once it is uncapped.

Do you have any other filters to hand? experienced a similar problem a few years ago and swapping out (and binning the old) filter did the trick... the "BT" branded filters are abit... pants.

Current line speed:
    15 Mb
Have changed the filter but can check again just to make sure, would I be better off disconnecting from the routers interface directly so as it not to look like a real disconnection (if that makes sense).

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Sorry i must of missed it previously in the thread.
DONT disconnect at all currently, if theres any "uplift" in speeds / interleaving etc, the DLM should do it automagically Smiley
PN Staff: whats the current Interleaving depth set to on the line, on US and DS ? or we on automatic/none?
Regards

edit:
whilst

FEC Errors (Up/Down):  0 / 0

indicates no interleaving - im asking because i know thomsons arent the best at showing correct figures in there.
increasing the interleaving depth on US by 1 may help but you'd lose abit of ping performance (which obviously, isnt good for gaming)

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Okie pokie I shall leave it alone for now Smiley
No idea what DLM is but you used automagically so it means I don't have to do anything so no need to know  Tongue

Re: Speed keeps dropping

heh, if you want to "geek up" on what that means its at the bottom here
But it is basically BTs equipment monitoring the line, how many drops it does, failed throughput etc. and adjusts the speed accordingly -- whilst it can be annoying (slow to change profile etc.) it fits its purpose reasonably well.
Regards

Re: Speed keeps dropping

Just remember who's analysing the line...

Dont annoy him, he might talk slurring his words in an inaudable fashion...
Whilst uncapping the US may alieviate the problem, in my personal opinion i think it will (more likely) compound it (but this is good...) it should make the problem easier to identify Smiley
