Speed issues :)

Quote
Telephone number:
    01652618xxx
Phone exchange:
    SAXBY ALL SAINTS
Estimated line speed:
    2.0 - Checked on 2009-11-30 09:52:55
Current line speed:
    Not set

Thats from https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
Thing is, my phone number is different from the one above as we've "recently" (On 6th) changed home and phone number (the xxx is different) - so I'm wondering if plusnet have my IP profile stuck down as the same speed as I previously had (which was about the speeds I'm obtaining on tests)
My Router Stats show

Re: Speed issues :)

I think a default 2000kbps profile is set in the absence of a delta report from BT which would lead to the download speeds you are seeing. BT might well have supplied such reports for your line but labelled them with your new phone number. Since PN still have your old number against your account those reports perhaps aren't finding the proper home.
You could try giving the CSC a ring to sort this out.

Thanks sprayxt,
I didn't want to call the CSC to act like a "crazy speed issues customer" without getting the general feeling from the community forum first Wink
I knew I "thought" what was going on, but you never know  Shocked
I've just spoken to a nice man in Sheffield who looked into it and pretty much confirmed what you've said - for some reason the old number was linked, which appears to screw things up a little/lot Smiley
Strange what moving half a mile down the road does isn't it  Wink
We've gone from a max of about 1.5/2mb on our old house line to over 6mb (hopefully) - we'll just have to wait for the line info to sync again with BT/PN systems
Just confirms what a difference the cabling in your house can make, it's a new build now, and I even went so far as to clean the heavy oxidisation (Plastered post BT) From the incoming BT line connections (let alone tidy them up the cabling, messy boys...) whilst removing the bell wire Wink - that appeared to give a huge improvement of 2500 on the sync  Smiley
Now sync'd at 8,128 which shows me the improvement's are nigh on balanced after the 10 days Wink
Hopefully our IP Profile will now Sync with PN, and if it hasn't by 24 hours I've been asked to ring CSC again to get them to set it manually Smiley

But it's not  Huh

Telephone number:
    016526180XX    (Still wrong number)
Phone exchange:
    SAXBY ALL SAINTS
Estimated line speed:
    2.0 - Checked on 2009-11-30 09:52:55  (Not updated)
Current line speed:
    7150 Thats updated

Just taken from BT Speedtester:
Quote
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1731 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7648 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps
10:20 Friday

BT might think it's "acceptable" and within range... I'm not so in the "acceptable" camp on that one  Roll_eyes
I still think something is amiss with the house move, especially with the profile page still having the wrong number set, and not reporting the estimate line speed on the new number..

Re: Speed issues :)

Fault logged this morning 11:04am
Fault initial checking completed 11:18am
CSC Update 1:09pm
With full stats on line, saying it looks fine
Further update 1:47pm
CSC replies with:
Dear Mr xyz,
Some changes have been made to your profile. Can you now please retest for us using the bt speedtester and keep us advised if there is still a problem. Thank you.
[internal] pttr showing 1731 throughput - bras and dslam profiles consistent and no prpfile changes since 12th - all other things in order - so wp profile reset and requesting customer retest to ensure default profile had not been applied via wp.

Unfortunately BT's tester says:
Quote
Performance Tester is unable to run the speed test for your telephone number: 01652618XXX and Service ID: XXXXXXXX. Please check that it is the correct telephone number/Service ID for your service. Did you follow all the instructions given on the website, before initiating the speed test. If not, then please follow all the instructions carefully and try to run the test again. If you believe it is correct telephone number/Service ID for your service and you have followed all the instructions then please ask your Service Provider whether you can use Performance Tester to test your Broadband speed. If this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

Pants BT system IMHO.

So

I'm much happier now  Cheesy
Edit..
BT Speedtester decided it could be bothered....

looks like whatever the heck "wp" is - it must be "wp" who made my line run slow  Undecided
Just shows, despite the comments you see on here from time to time, the tech support geeks do indeed fix things and in a very timely manner Wink
Thanks Smiley

Re: Speed issues :)

I think 'wp' means 'workplace' the system that manages our accounts. The reset is to ensure the service profile is the correct one for your account. At your end of the connection the equivalent is perhaps turning the router off, then back on again which reinitialises all the connection management tables.
