Re: Speed issue

I'm guessing that you are using wireless connection - have you tried wired?

Re: Speed issue

I am on mobile broadband at the moment and having no issues.  Speed is good for mobile.  I will try it wired directly.

Re: Speed issue

You need to establish whether the failures to load pages when browsing are due to the wireless dropping out or a problem with the router to exchange. From all that has been posted in this topic I'd suggest it's the wireless. Have you tried using different channels?

Re: Speed issue

Hi - I've updated your ticket requesting speed tests via a wired connection.

Note the one low speed reading.  BT Speedtester gave similar readings wired with speed of approximately 6mb.  If it stayed constantly at 6mb I woudl be happy.

Re: Speed issue

That again points to a dropout on the wireless, not the connection.

Re: Speed issue

Belkin Router modem F5D7633-4 has finally given up the ghost.  Seems that it has been the router playing up intermittently for some time.  Works okay for a few weeks and then starts hassling, corrects it self for awhiel and then starts hassling all over again.  Now the DSL light does not come on at all.  Have ordered a Belkin N150 router modem so lest hope that it lasts as long as the last one.  Thanks for all the input.

BTW Are we able to buy a modem from PlusNet at this point in time separately from being in contract?  If so, what type is it and what is the cost shipped|?

Yes you can buy one from us. It's a Thomson TG585v8 and it's £40 + £4.99 P&P. Alternatively you could just pay the £4.99 and would only pay us the £40 if you left within 12 months, so you can't lose there really.

Re: Speed issue

After doing a bit of research on the Internet, it appears that there was an issue with connectivity and the firmware.  Does the latest  THOMSON TG585v8 come with the firmware already installed?  If so, as we are happy to stay with Plusnet for another year, I would like to know how we can go about doing the payment bit etc.
Secondly can someone in billing please contact me preferably by email about payment for renewing my subscription as I pay annually and I am not sure when my current payment period ends. I can then either email back or phone. Thanks.

Re: Speed issue

The v8's supplied by Plusnet may possibly give you absolutely dire wireless upload speeds. Their only solution if you are affected by this is to give you a V7.

Re: Speed issue

Hi Surfer,
With regards to your annual billing ask your question to the billing team here. You'd need to speak to someone to make the £4.99 P&P payment and we can send the router out. I can call you if you like.
Jelv, although that has happened, it's only affected a couple of dozen people out of many, many thousands.

Re: Speed issue

JoJo,
I wonder how many others are affected but don't realise that it is not how it should be?

Re: Speed issue

I've often wondered that too and the fact that we've never been able to replicate it means we've not been able to get a firmware fix for it. It's quite frustrating. Smiley

Re: Speed issue

There are several that I know of where switching off 'n' mode in the wi-fi settings cures problems (including random router restarts which should not really be possible just due to a wi-fi incompatibility of some sort), could you not make a minor tweak to the firmware settings so that wi-fi 'n' is off by default, that way people might be aware if the problem occurred only after enabling 'n' mode and would switch it back?
The Wi-fi is described on the Technicolor datasheet as 'Wireless networking on-board: 802.11n 1x1 for enhanced 802.11b/g' which, if I'm not mistaken, gives a claimed 65Mbps which is hardly a noticeable increase over standard 'g' mode 54Mbps.  I don't think anyone who has had to switch off the 'n' mode has missed it at all.
