Note the one low speed reading. BT Speedtester gave similar readings wired with speed of approximately 6mb. If it stayed constantly at 6mb I woudl be happy.

BTW Are we able to buy a modem from PlusNet at this point in time separately from being in contract? If so, what type is it and what is the cost shipped|?

Yes you can buy one from us. It's a Thomson TG585v8 and it's £40 + £4.99 P&P. Alternatively you could just pay the £4.99 and would only pay us the £40 if you left within 12 months, so you can't lose there really.

Secondly can someone in billing please contact me preferably by email about payment for renewing my subscription as I pay annually and I am not sure when my current payment period ends. I can then either email back or phone. Thanks.

With regards to your annual billing ask your question to the billing team here. You'd need to speak to someone to make the £4.99 P&P payment and we can send the router out. I can call you if you like.
Jelv, although that has happened, it's only affected a couple of dozen people out of many, many thousands.

I wonder how many others are affected but don't realise that it is not how it should be?

The Wi-fi is described on the Technicolor datasheet as 'Wireless networking on-board: 802.11n 1x1 for enhanced 802.11b/g' which, if I'm not mistaken, gives a claimed 65Mbps which is hardly a noticeable increase over standard 'g' mode 54Mbps. I don't think anyone who has had to switch off the 'n' mode has missed it at all.
At any given moment in the universe many things happen. Coincidence is a matter of how close these events are in space, time and relationship.
