Speed has got really slow the last few days

Over the last few days my internet speed has got really slow. About a week ago when I did a speed test it was running at around 1Mb/s which isn't great but it did the job.
The last few days it has gotten unbearably slow. And when I have run speed tests the download speed is always now around 0.2Mb/s which is awfully slow.
It's just happened in the last 4 days and it seems to be at 0.2Mb/s no matter what time of day it is.
It is getting really frustrating. Why has my speed dropped so much in the last few days?

I tried to do that BT speedtest thing and it came up with this:

ok I went to that last link and it came up with:

That explains it.
You must have had a low sync 2 or 3 days ago and the IP profile has recovered but the Plusnet mirror of it hasn't picked it up yet.
You could give them a call and see if you can get them to nudge it manually

ok thanks. I'm not sure exactly what that means but I phoned them up and told them what you said and asked if they could nudge me and she said I have to do 3 of those BT speed test things at different times and some other tests before she can help

Yes, it seems as though the profile lift was lagging behind a bit. As far as the speed goes, I would expect you to get more than what you are currently getting. Looking at your connections since the 5th it would appear there is an underlying problem. The main thing causing the lower sync rate is the SNR during my test was 16dB. What are your connections like at home, are you using any extensions etc? Are you in the master/test socket?

Ok, I had a look at my connections. It looks like the master socket is in a little cupboard downstairs. It doesn't have a hole to put a phone in, its a blank plate, but it does have a test socket when i unscrew the plate. From this socket it runs off 2 ways to an extension socket in the living room and an extension socket upstairs. My router is plugged into the extension socket that is upstairs as that is where the office is.
What sort of speed should I be able to get? I know the Inverness exchange is suppose to be pretty poor compared to the rest of the UK.
