Speed fallen off a log

Hi
My speeds up and down have crashed from pretty good results of over 10mbs  to awful
Also Plusnet or BT have downgraded my current line speed to  1750
Any idea what may be going on ?
With thanks in anticipation

Steve

Re: Speed fallen off a log

We need the output from a BT speed test as well as what https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate says for your current line speed (I presume the 1750 above is the latter).

Re: Speed fallen off a log

You seem to be getting a load of different connection speeds.
Can you plug the router in to the test socket inside the master socket without any telephones or anything else connected and get the router stats page. The figures we need are the Down Speed and the SNR Margin.

Re:Speed fallen off a log

Hi there,
Your connection appears to have been rather unstable since the 15th, resulting in the 1750 profile you have now. Has anything changed locally?

Re: Speed fallen off a log

Right ...have identified the problem
Having recently redecorated some absolute nincompoop (OK, have to admit it was me !) forgot to put the ADSL filter back on one of my phone lines
With my Plusnet Current Line Speed at 1750 will I have to wait till the system retrains itself or are one of you able to bump me back up ?
What a twit !
Most grateful to you guys for your help
Best

Re: Speed fallen off a log

You should get an IP Profile appropriate to your current sync speed within 3 days (hopefully quicker as it's a big change).
What was the noise margin after you put things right and you synced at a near normal speed? If you have been given a higher target SNRM it could take a few weeks to fully recover.

Re: Speed fallen off a log

Screenshot of new router stats (Draytek Vigor2820n) and BT speedtest herewith
Am still slightly worried that my speeds don't match. The router seems to still indicate very high speeds.

Re: Speed fallen off a log

The result from the speedtest matches the IP Profile that's set on the line. The sync though is signficantly higher (15Mbps) which should give you a new IP Profile of about 12 or 13Mbps. The way the BT systems work is that if you have an increase in sync speed there's a bit of a lag between the sync rate increasing and the IP Profile increasing. How long that takes depends on how much the increase is. A small increase like 1750kbps to 2Mbps takes a lot longer than a big increase like you should have from 1750kbps to 12Mbps. The smaller ones take 3-5 days while the larger ones 1-3 days.
So if you've fixed the filter problem today then the IP profile should go up sometime between tonight and Sunday morning so long as the sync speed doesn't decrease in the meantime.

Postscript: Back up to 12MBs download (after router re-boot)
Thanks again to all

Re: Speed fallen off a log

my speed has dropped a great deal. i am syncing at 14366kps with a ip profile of 12000kps but only getting download speeds 6500kps.
tried rebouting router but no joy tried switching gatesways and still getting speeds of 6500. Every time i rebout the sync stays the same so i think i am on a banded profile once again
for what reason i do not know.
can any one shine some light on the decrease in speed?

Re: Speed fallen off a log

If it is more than 12 hours with the PN current line speed not matching the IP Profile reported by the BT speed test you need to ring in to ask for your current line speed to be set. The agent should be able to do it immediately. Any problems contact one of the comms team using a PM and they will do some "educating"!
