Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

Your IP profile has probably reduced to 1500kbps or 1750kbps
You can check by running the BT speedtest and checking the current Line Speed here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

Thanks Jim I got this:
Telephone number:
*Hidden*
Phone exchange:
ST MERRYN
Estimated line speed:
8 - Checked on 2010-09-05 14:12:18
Current line speed:
1500
Thing that concerns me here is I have moved house and they have my old home phone number on file. I dont live in st.merryn anymore and I know where I live now only supports approx 2 mbps.

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

The current line speed explains the speed test but now we need the result of the BT speed test to see if it matches the IP profile
Regarding your phone number - is the one you blanked out correct .
If not I have no idea how that would affect things but the BT speedtest will show if there is a current mismatch

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

BT speed test is taking ages. I cant understand why my ping has gone through the roof either it was never anywhere near that high. Perhaps I should raise a fault ticket?

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

I would guess that your profile dropped to 1500kbps then increased to 1750kbps and will increase further to 2,000kbps if you hold sync at that speed
However your speed is lower than might be expected given your attenuation so it might be worth trying the test socket - during daylight hours and report the stats
Pings from that test site are notoriously flakey - it would be better to do a ping test to a Plusnet server yourself
Note - a small increase in sync speed to 2848kbps will give you an IP profile of 2,500kbps

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

Thanks jim I will try it in the test socket. In the mean time Im going to raise a fault ticket because nothing is playable/downloadable or watchable at the minute. Youtube videos for example takes 10 seconds to load less than a second of watching time!  Embarrassed

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

Seriously PN I'm paying you £20.00 a month for this:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 971 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2816 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1750 Kbps
Now, if I want dial up speeds I may as well cancel my £20.00 service and get dial up???

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

Hi Neil3045,
That slow speed is being caused by a dropping connection fault - do you notice the router losing connection at all?
I'll happily get this raised for you, but we need to make sure it's not being caused by anything at your premises (have you recently added anything to the phone line?)
Whether you have or not, please can you plug the router into the master socket (or even better, the test socket behind the master socket front plate) and remove everything else from the line? It'd also be useful to test an alternative microfilter and (if possible) router as well, just to eliminate everything.
This will confirm the fault isn't being caused by anything at your premises. Once that's confirmed we'll be able to raise it for you.

Re: Speed fallen below 1mbps!

Hi matt thanks for the reply. No I havnt added anything new and now you mention it, I have noticed that my playstation kept losing connection but it must have been too quick to notice on the pc. Today, for some reason none of our computers could connect wirelessly to our network. I tried resetting the router to no avail. I have connected my laptop via cable and have got online, but I cannot log into my router. I used to use the defaults, admin and password but these do not work. I had this happen at my old address and it seemed to magically work after several tries. I wonder if my router is failing?Huh
thanks Neil.
