hi my router resynced this morning and gave me a snr of 6. now the bandwidth seems very unstable heres a few speed test results-

That variation seems likely to be an effect of congestion on the network with BT randomly dropping packets when they shouldn't be (the recently added capacity not working properly). This is one of the issues Plusnet are looking into.
If the changed target SNR Margin results in an increase in sync speed sufficient to change your IP Profile, it could take up to 5 days for this to work its way through the system. Until that happens speedtest results will show no change in maximum speed.

I saw a significant increase in sync speed after the bandwidth was added. My IP profile went up 17000kbps, which is its highest yet. I also recieved fewer uncorrected blocks on my router. However this has dropped back down again to 13000kbps

Have been on ADSL 2+  21CN  for nearly a month now & my achieved download speeds are getting worse & worse.
Despite having read this forum quite a bit I am afraid it all seems a bit arcane to me & I can't myself seem to evaluate my figures (I guess there are probably a lot of people like me. )
It would be great (if it hasn't been done already) for someone to give a very basic primer as to what to look for in all the available figures in baby language. And also examples of what are extremely good figures, what are average and what are poor. Next whether,having looked at the figures, we should try and solve things our end or whether BT or PlusNet need to tweak
As for my own figures my current line speed as verified by BT & PlusNet is 17000  (raised from 15000 by someone at Plusnet)
Initially I was achieving 10MB+ download speeds regularly. Since being raised to 17000 the results have been very patchy but not really sure this is down to the new rating
Any suggestions ?

Looks like my router has re-synced its upstream speed today:

A few days ago I had to swap to a Netgear DG834G, since my Solwise router wasn't stable at all. It began well, but was getting worse and worse and in the end it kept falling over every hour where you couldn't even log-in to it properly. Its just one of those things, but see my point below - one failed router could mean days of low sync & reduced IP profile?
Here is a dump from the router stats tool (connected to the DG834) during Sunday early evening:

I'm hoping the sudden jump back to 888 upstream is a good sign for my downstream. More reliable router means all is being left well alone.
Still not particularly impressed with the way BT are doing this though - one good power outage or thunder storm or failed router could see your connection speed drop for days on end + the IP profile drop with it and take even long to come back to normal?
The line internally is absolutely as it should be. The bloke who previously lived at my address had certainly done some strange (and probably illegal) things to the phone line.
BT Master is now as it should be, extension is from the face plate to where my router is and is a proper extension. Bog standard ADSL filters on both, d-link branded.
Have tried the router on master socket + direct having removed consumer plate etc sometime last week just to see - no reported differences.

Today an improvement - looks like BT think I have a better line again.
Downstream has (finally) jumped higher than my old ADSL1 connection, with the upstream jumping to 1156.

I will run some BT speed tests for the IP profile later this evening.

I think upstream is close to the best it can get on ADSL2+ Annex A there. Downstream, there should still be more to come and leaving the router alone seems to help. Perhaps another step in 24-48 hours.
The IP Profile for your current sync is 10000kbps, though tonight is probably too soon for that to have changed - it should happen within 2 days.

I've been away for a week visiting relatives so have left the router well alone. The router has been absolutely solid since swapping to a Netgear DG834G (latest h/w & firmware revisions) - AFAIK it hasn't gone down once over the past few weeks.
Forced a resync just now to see what would happen, am getting:
Connection Speed 12655 kbps 1275 kbps
Line Attenuation    31.0 db 14.0 db
Noise Margin 13.85 db 5.5 db
Before forced resync:
Connection Speed  11679 kbps  1156 kbps
Line Attenuation              31.0 db  14.0 db
Noise Margin            15.15 db  10.0 db
Again I'll just leave it alone for a while - it seems ADSL2+ IS reliable, it just takes longer to become so after the initial line set-up (not helped in my case by a faulty/not capable router, of course)
