Using ADSL2 or 2+ just gives me lower sync speeds both up and down link. However the ADSL 1 sync rate is much better than it was at 4128 with lower atten (56dB at 10dB S/N).
Conclusion ADSL 1 is best for long lines, but 21CN did improve something here never the less.

Immediately after switchover (at about 12:10):
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 6.0
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,000 / 12,211
After manually rebooting the router due to SN Margin Down dropping to 5.0dB (at about 14:40)
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 6.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 992 / 11,530
After router losing connection and reconnecting automatically (at about 15:00):
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.5 / 6.0
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 992 / 11,315
After router losing connection and reconnecting automatically (at about 16:20):
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.5 / 6.0
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 976 / 11,068
I suspect as the afternoon and evening draws on and the downstream SN Margin figures fall there will be a few more disconnects until the line stabilises.

This is using the SAME router before and after the change to your 21CN connection?
Can you tell you router to go back to ADSL1 only and get the same speeds back again?
On a long line, do you find the sync speed changes during the day and night without any disconnects?

greyposter - same, I just increased the speed profile our side to match BT's, if you disconnect/reconnect you should see an increase in speed.

Quote from: Oldjim This is what it looks like on my DG834G which uses the same chipset as the GT
Edit - I enable debug mode so that may be the difference http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
Thanks Oldjim - I don't understand the debug option as it bypasses the web menu.
Anyway, I've finally kicked the family off and upgraded the firmware - no apparent differences.
Firmware was gotten from http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/DG834GT.asp
Was forced to use a Windows laptop, so I was able to use DMT to look at frequencies.
This showed that the router does actually recognise ADSL2+ ...

Thanks Dave. I've rebooted my router and can confirm that my IP profile is now 9000 kbps.
Since going over to ADSL2+ I have been unable to use the BT speedtester as it reports the following each time I try:
System Error
The system is currently busy. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.
However, the following speedtests, using www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk, were carried out today and show how the transition has gone so far:

SAME router
Yes I can switch my router between ADSL1 ADSL2 and ADSL2+ using DMT tool and get the results I outlined consistently.
Certainly in the past pre 21CN my router could resync without losing connection sometimes. My previous router DG834G used to struggle at night with poor S/N , but this Netgear DG834N is much better and doesn't show much change in S/N day or night.
PS
I see PN/BT have put my BRAS profile up to 3500 and I am getting up to 3000 down on Speed Test tonight.
