Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

As Mark said Moderation of the link:pug board is shared between the PUG and the `Community Moderators`. And as the PUG is helping to correlate issues with projects, such as Ironport and the 21CN trials the boards are placed under their section.
What is missing is any reference to this arrangement in the main link:rules, guess what I get to do this weekend  Wink

The only thing is.....
I'm having to go to a job in Ipswich tonight and I won't now be back till late tomorrow night (I'm guessing 21.00 - 22.00 at best) Probably be too tired to switch off modem and on again and so forth so you guys will have to wait for an update.
Thanks for your interest Asbo dog  Smiley
Of course the change might not happen until late anyway.
Will keep you posted.

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

I will be really interested to see how things go here, as I have 60dB atten on my line and have to frig the modem to get it to use a lower S/N ratio as it stands. I get 3392 sync rate on a good day.  2500 is max stable rate here at present. My main hope is that changes to my BRAS profile don't take so long to recover from in future. I also pay for the faster upload speed here and get 736 upstream sync.

UPDATE 2 despite getting 4128 sync on ADSL 1 now, the BRAS profile appears to be clamping downloads to 2500 (2332 measured). Hopefully this will go back up to over  3000 again.

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

My line has just been switched over.  The changeover was seemless, the lights on my router alerted me to the fact that something was going on.  Below is the information from my router prior to and after the switchover:
Router Information -  ADSL:
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,096
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 16.5 / 30.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 10.0
Router Information - ADSL2+:  (uptime:  0 days, 0:02:27)
Modulation: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,000 / 12,211
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 22.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 17.0 / 33.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 6.0
I will carry out speedtests and post them later.  It will be interesting to see how things settle down over the 7 day training period.

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

I'm not sure speed results are of a lot of use.
My download sync rate has increased from about 7648kbps to only 8517kbps
I think that my BRAS limiter is unchanged.
I am getting a lot of TCP re-transmits, which is causing a lot of sluggish browsing.
My router is not showing any difference in the way it connects - is this right?

Have you tried rebooting your router?

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

Thanks James.
I have a Netgear DG834GT - before rebooting I had no connectivity, I now have the connectivity previously described.

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

Try forcing G.992.3 mode on the router:
http://your.router.ip.address/setup.cgi?next_file=dsl_cfg.htm&todo=cfg_init
and select "ADSL2"  under "DSL Mode", then apply and reboot router again.

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

I wonder if I have the right kind of firmware?
I only get a choice of
Quote
    *  Multiplexing Method - Your ISP will indicate whether your Multiplexing Method is VC-BASED or LLC-BASED.
    * Virtual Circuit - Your ISP will indicate which VPI/VCI combination is used for your service.

My firmware is V1.02.04

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

Fancy trying to upgrade to the latest version of firmware, whilst keeping a copy of the existing firmware?
Whilst it may not achieve anything, it would be interesting to see if it makes any difference.

Re: Speed Thread (Before and after transfer speed comparisons)

This is what it looks like on my DG834G which uses the same chipset as the GT
Edit - I enable debug mode so that may be the difference http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
