Re: Speed Problems

Hi brignall1,
I've escalated Ticket: 83118024 back to you regarding FTTC availability. Unfortunately it seems like the plans to upgrade your cabinet to FTTC has been pushed back to 31/12/2014. We are unable to make this happen any sooner as this is work that is being carried out by OpenReach and we do not control when this work takes place.
Sorry if this causes any inconvenience.
A suggestion regarding your current speed is to try a wired connection without the homeplugs when you notice a dorp in your speeds just to rule out that the homeplugs aren't the issue.

Re: Speed Problems

Is there anything that can be done to improve latency and upload speed and is it normal to have internet too slow to play any games online?

Re: Speed Problems

Can you try without Homeplugs so you're just using Ethernet in the first instance, just to check that they aren't causing issues?

Re: Speed Problems

That is difficult to do but I will try tomorrow. I configured the TcpAckFrequency registry entry and connected to a different DNS to try and improve the internet and it did, significantly. Ping is at about 60 now on most games but sometimes shoots up and if someone watches a video it will increase to about 200 making games unplayable. In our house there is normally someone watching a video meaning this is very problematic.

Re: Speed Problems

I have tested the internet using a wired connection without the home plug and it is still having problems. It doesn't seem to be any better without it.

Re: Speed Problems

When you're playing, say Diablo 3, so you get high latency? It should show you on the latency bar in the bottom right of the screen?

Re: Speed Problems

Yes. The latency bar in the bottom right for Diablo 3, the ping on the scoreboard in counter strike,  etc. Diablo 3 isn't a fair test at the moment though since their servers are suffering from DDOS attacks. I have tested it before the attacks though.

Re: Speed Problems

Is this still happening?
Strange that it's happening to different games that use different platforms.
If you could provide a traceroute that'd be helpful too.

Re: Speed Problems

Yes it is still happening and a trace route to what?
I did a trace route to community.plus.net and got this:

Re: Speed Problems

You mentioned that the issue is affecting a few games you regularly play, could you traceroute to one the servers that you would connect to?

This is my first traceroute:

That first traceroute must have been when someone in the house was watching a video. I tried again after making sure no one was using the internet and got this:

Re: Speed Problems

Thanks for the information.
Would you be able to get us a Wireshark Capture as shown here: http://community.plus.net/library/windows/how-to-use-wireshark-windows-video/
We could do with taking a look at the upstream side of things, I want to ensure it's not being saturated when Streaming and Gaming are being run at the same time.

Re: Speed Problems

I took a wireshark capture for using internet explorer (Wireshark_IE) as instructed in the video and I also took one on an online game (Wireshark_Game).
Edit: For some reason, it isn't letting me attach the files so I had to upload them and put in a download link, sorry.

Re: Speed Problems

Hi brignall1,
Are you able to upload it to a different site such as Dropbox for example?
If you can, you should be able to populate a link from it and PM me it?
