Speed Problem

Last Sunday (2nd October)  my cat damaged my broadband cable. Consequently my speed went down due to resyncing while correcting the problem. My cable is now hardwired into the faceplate, as is my phone.
It has been more than 5 days since the cable was hardwired and the connection has been rock solid. I rebooted today, however my sync speeds have not returned to anything like what I was seeing before i.e. I was syncing at aproximately 3500 and had a comparable IP Profile.
The stats from the Thompson router are
Uptime: 0 days, 0:50:59
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Channel mode: Interleave
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,016 / 2,144
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 1,984
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 0.00 / 3.29
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 17.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 27.5 / 53.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 14.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 255 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 21 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 10 / 173
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 2 / 1
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 5 / NA
The other thing I noticed is that when I was using my Netgear router the SN Margin was 6dB and it is now 14.5dB although this is down from the 16dB that it was at when I rebooted.
I did a BT speed test which reported
DL Speed during test 1581Kbps
DSL connection 1952Kbps (Down)
                              448 Kbps (Up)
IP Profile 1750 Kbps
Do I have another problem or do I just have to put up with slower speeds

Re: Speed Problem

It looks as though your default noise margin has been increased to 15dB and this will probably need a reset to sort it out - the other option is to wait for several weeks and hope the automatic systems will do it

Re: Speed Problem

How do I reset it?

Re: Speed Problem

Raise a ticket or wait for a member of Digital Care Team to pick it up tomorrow

Re: Speed Problem

Thanks.
I'll wait and raise a ticket if they don't see it.

Re: Speed Problem

Hi there,
It looks like there were a few drops on the line a few days back - possibly when you were doing the wiring?
I suspect the exchange has picked these up as faulty disconnects and reduced the line profile/increased the SNR in order to compensate and stabilise the connection. It should uplift itself over the next few days as long as the connection remains stable.
If the line drops at all I'd recommend following the troubleshooter at http://faults.plus.net and we'll investigate for you.
If it remains stable, but the profile doesn't increase then let us know and we'll arrange for an SNR reset to retrain the line.
Hope that helps,

Re: Speed Problem

That's what I thought had happened. I was just concerned when it never went back to the old settings after a few days of stability.
The only time since then that it has disconnected was when I rebooted yesterday.

Re: Speed Problem

Matt, The DLM deciding to lower the target noise margin can take weeks (unlike the IP Profile which is around 3 days). This looks a classic case for a SNR reset.

Re: Speed Problem

Could well be but I'd rather see it stable for a bit more than 18 hours before I do that.
