Speed Drop - BT To Plusnet

I moved over to Plusnet as they seemed to be offering a better deal than BT (eg unlimited broadband for less than BT were offering 40Gb a month)
I hoped I would see similar results to what I got with BT being 18Mb downstream, 1Mb upstream but Plusnet is only giving me about 11Mb downstream and just 0.36 Mb upstream.
I wonder is this the best I can expect to get with Plusnet? might it improve after the bedding in period? and also would it have helped if I had setup their Technicolor router rather than just putting my Plusnet credentials into my BT Home Hub3?

Hi there,
You should hopefully see some improvement over the first week or so as the line retrains.
The router you're using shouldn't make a great difference to connection speeds to be honest. Was the 11mbps result achieved over a wired or wireless connection?

Hi Adam,
The 11mb downstream was over a wired connection.

Re: Speed Drop - BT To Plusnet

@woodm - ask to have your upstream uncapped. If you got ~1Mb up with BT, you should get the same with PN.

Hi woodm, we'd certainly be able to uncap the upstream for you if you wish, just let us know Smiley

Re: Speed Drop - BT To Plusnet

Thanks Matt. I see my upstream is uncapped today and heading back towards the 1Mb mark again.
Downstream is upto 16Mb too which is good but I guess that might fluctuate for a bit still.

Re: Speed Drop - BT To Plusnet

So, my connection seems to have settled at :
Which is pretty good.
Is this pretty much in the ball park of what's doable with PlusNet Unlimited Broadband?
I am curious how BT were able to send me 18Mb downstream on the same line from the same exchange but that's not meant as a complaint.

Which BT router did you use and do you still have it?

jelv - I'm still using my BTHomeHub3.
Didn't get on with the PlusNet Technicolor router due to it's buzzing and getting hot - Beleive PlusNet are going to send me a different one.

Re: Speed Drop - BT To Plusnet

Stick with the homehub! The Plusnet one is handy as a spare and for fault diagnosis so is worth hanging on to just for that.

Great 🙂 I'm back to where I was before I switched. I hope it holds out.
