Spam in pairs

I have experienced an increase in spam lately (I'm not on the Postini trial afaik) and am now receiving two copies of the same spam email. Address (not mine, just my random one that ends up in my general mailbox), subject, date & time stamp are all the same.
I've also received the same email in my personal inbox, despite having rules that should stop it. I'm using Thunderbird v2.0.0.9
Any ideas whether this is a Plusnet thing, a problem with Thunderbird or something else?
Cheers
Phill

Re: Spam in pairs

In the headers look at the Envelope-to line - are they different?
If so one of them will be to an address that does not show up in to To: or the CC: lines. This will have been sent to the Envelope-to address as a BCC.

Re: Spam in pairs

Thanks for the quick response.
The email that got through to my real mailbox had my address in the Envelope-to line, although it displayed the random address in the email itself. The emails that were picked up by the general mailbox had D25C9@xxxx.xxx and sycphop@xxxx.xxx in their Envelope-to headers.
All the emails showed the D25C9 name as the sender.
I guess that means that Thunderbird is working correctly  Undecided but I'm still not sure whether they should be caught by Plusnet or not.

Re: Spam in pairs

Pretty standard spammers tricks (sawn off shotgun to hit as wide an area as possible rather than a rifle with a telescopic site!).

Are you aware that you can switch off the "catch-all" mailbox meaning that only mail to mailboxes or aliases you have created is delivered.
This should significantly reduce this type of spam on your account.

I have switched off catch all and I am on the postini trial and I am getting more spam than ever some sent in blocks of 6 to 7 last night I had 150 spam mail

Re: Spam in pairs

If it's the same as Outlook 2003 - from the View menu select Options.
