So.. please be honest, have you been restricting my FTP?

PN,
I respect the fact that we over ran our 4GB peak time allowance this month for the first time and so I'd like to ask you if the restriction placed on our service has meant FTP being completely restricted in peak time?
Reason I ask is that I've been completely unable to connect to my website and my host has been non-stop head scratching and is still drawing a blank.
Please can you let me know if you have been restricting it or not so that I can clear this up with my host.
Thank you.

Are you still on BB+? I thought you were changing to value or unlimited.
If you are still on BB+ - a quote from the product specification:
Quote
If your usage goes over 4GB during peak times or 50GB offpeak in a given month, your service will be heavily restricted until the start of your next billing month when your usage is reset. If you are downloading large files you should do this outside of the busy periods.

Re: So.. please be honest, have you been restricting my FTP?

Yes we upgraded. No confirmation however of when that takes affect. The customer portal shows that we're now on unlimited but it doesn't say if that kicks in on the next billing date or immediately. See PN are a non-communicative communications company. We never even got an email to tell us we were near or over the 4GB limit!
The weird thing is for the next 6 months its actually cheaper for us to upgrade to unlimited... First 3 months are at 11.99 and then the next months after that pay the extra few quid with the savings from the first 3! I really don't see the logic..

It normally kicks in at your next billing date.

Unless you've made special arrangements, account changes normally happen on the next billing date.
Edit: Drat - too slow!

Re: So.. please be honest, have you been restricting my FTP?

Just to add - yesterday evening the FTP connection to my 1and1 website was abysmally slow. I even had to wait about 20secs for the file list to update when I moved between folders

Re: So.. please be honest, have you been restricting my FTP?

Still avoiding the question though James!
If it was a no you would of said no. You didn't.. so from that I can only assume that it was restricted. Thats fair enough considering we exceeded the 4GB but for gods sake, learn to send emails to your customers. It's not ROCKET SCIENCE!!!
This has had a chain reaction which has caused me a LOT of difficulty in the last few days. Had we of had a warning from you guys this could of all been avoided.
PLEASE, communicate with your customers. You are a communications company aren't you? (Even BT used to say "It's good to talk!" [Bob Hoskins ads in the 90's] yet they'd fail to ring you and tell you they were cutting you off too..)

Re: So.. please be honest, have you been restricting my FTP?

James had already told you that you were being restricted:

Hi there,
You're using Broadband Plus, which was launched a number of years ago as our entry level product.  It gives a peak usage allowance of 4GB, afterwhich speeds are reduced.
You've currently used 4.24GB during peak times this billing month, hence why you're seeing poor speeds.  These restrictions will be removed on your next billing date (24th).
I'm sure we've spoken about this before, but you've always been unwilling to change your product.  Given the forthcoming contractual changes that we're going to be making next month, maybe now might be a sensible time to change to our unlimited product?

Re: So.. please be honest, have you been restricting my FTP?

True but what I want to know is this:
Has my FTP been restricted to the point of useless?
EDIT: I don't suppose it matters now either way... whats happened elsewhere has now happened and its had a pretty bad effect but as usual i'll take the consequences.

Re: So.. please be honest, have you been restricting my FTP?

okrzynska,
Have you disconnected and reconnected since the account change? You'll need to do that to change from the plus profile to the unlimited one. That should remove the restrictions.
Hope that helps,

Also, I believe the new products that have a limit, will email you when you approach that limit.
I think that applies to BBYW and later.
