Slow

So ,the first 8 months with plusnet and my broadband speed averaged 5.5 meg with a stable connection and I'm happy  Smiley  last several weeks it has progressively slowed down and I'm am averaging 2.9 meg  Sad and I'm far from happy. Now I'm no computer wizz although I did manage to access the following information from my router(don't know if this means anything to anyone?and do a BT wholesale test.  I did read that at times BT wholesale tend to slow your connection down to stabilize the line. My contract ends in Nov and I will be looking at alternatives if this issue persists, anyone?

Re: Slow

Hi there,
Just checking a few details on your account and performing some diagnostics but there's no obvious causes for that issue.
I can see you've raised a fault which is definitely the right thing to do. I'd go back to http://faults.plus.net though as it looks like you need to finish going through the last few steps on the fault checker in order to formally report that with us. Let me know if you have any issues in doing so.

Re: Slow

There is nothing obviously wrong with those stats except that your speed is too low for the attenuation and noise margin and that you are probably on a 20CN exchange
First thing to try is to connect the router to the test socket - see this post for details http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html - and report the stats
As a further check if you put your phone number or post code in here what does it say about WBC on 21CN http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/

I thought the upstream IP Profile reported by the speed test was indicative of a 21CN exchange.

Re: Slow

You could be correct - I forgot about that - which means he may have been provisioned on ADSL1 on 21CN

Re: Slow

Adam,
Continuing to go through the last few steps of reporting sequence, have connected to the test socket and initial download speed is 2.75 meg(so getting slower)  Cry I'm told to try 3 speed tests at different times of the day.......which I'll do!

Re: Slow

Your internal wiring or filter or something connected to it is killing your speed - speed tests are not relevant
This is the difference
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:  448 / 3.392
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:  448 / 6.208
You need to find out what in your property is killing the speed.
A fault report to Plusnet can't sort that

Re: Slow

OK thanks for that,I'll have to scrutinise the wiring  Embarrassed although it beats me how my wiring is at fault as It's not vulnerable to damage or accidental interference, put simply nothing has changed my end as far as I can see. Once again thanks  Smiley

If I had a penny for each time.... Wink
I know what you're saying though, depending on what your set up is like I'd starting with just the router alone connected to the line then reconnect any phones or other devices one by one, failing that the issue might be with an extension that runs from the master socket (assuming there is one).

Re: Slow

OK,
So I check my internal wiring ( I know I'm wasting my time because nothing has changed) and as I suspect all is okay. Then this morning I briefly loose my Internet connection followed  by 2 texts from Plusnet  to tell me my speed issue is sorted  Cheesy So I do a speed test and yipee my download speed is back up to 5 meg ish...........    Smiley  Thank you the Plusnet support staff, much appreciated.
