Slow upload

Hi, I've got a fairly new connection and whilst the download speed is fine, my upload speed is alarmingly slow. 3 speed tests tonight showed 0.04 Mbps, 0.09 Mbps and 0.07 Mbps! Surely this can't be right?
Router is plugged in to the main socket.

Re: Slow upload

I'm at work right now but will try and check tonight. Did a quick speedtest this morning and it's no better though. My iCloud back-ups are failing (tried it on work wi-fi and it's fine, so I'm assuming it's the speed).
What I can see from work is estimated line speed of 8Mb, current speed 7.15Mb.
If there is any other info I can get remotely then I'm happy to do so

Re: Slow upload

Hi Leeheyes,
can you do a wired speed test to see whether it's just the wireless upload that's affected?

Re: Slow upload

Hi JoJo,
Thanks for the reply  Smiley
Not really (unless my PS3 can do it?)
My PC is upstairs (router downstairs) and we use an iPhone and iPad wirelessly, but mostly in the same room as the router. I play guitar and upload files to the web which can be fairly large so a 70kbps and slower upload really isn't going to help and as I said before, my iCloud back-up is failing.
Is there anything you can check before I get back tonight?

Re: Slow upload

It's almost certain that it's only the wireless that is affected so tested wired must be the first step. Either you have to drag the PC downstairs or could you borrow a long ethernet cable to temporarily run up the stairs to do the test?
Even when you get this immediate issue resolved upload speeds wireless are probably not going to be as fast as wired, so if that is important to you and a permanent wire up the stairs is not an option you could look at homeplugs.

Re: Slow upload

Hi Leeheyes,
we have had an issue with wireless uploads with certain router/computer combinations. If we can confirm this then I could get you a different version router. If not, it would be another avenue of investigation and the router would make no difference.

Re: Slow upload

Thanks for all the replies.
Running a cable upstairs isn't an option, either aesthetically or practically. I can cope with slower uploads from the PC though, it's the Apple devices that need it to be better. The Apple devices will often be in the same room as the router so homeplugs may not help. As I said, I'll try and do a wired test using the PS3 as that is hardwired to the router, but it won't be using any of the normal sites, rather the inbuilt PS3 test.
The speedtests I've ran so far have been on both iPhone and iPad. I'm not expecting the Earth, but 43 kbps is worse than dial up

Re: Slow upload

Hi  Leeheyes,
if you can just confirm the wired result that'd be great. We could then look to get it resolved for you.

Re: Slow upload

Apologies for the long post, I couldn't see any other way of getting the info on
I restarted the router when I got home as it was still less than 100 kbps.

Re: Slow upload

Presumably the 100kbps upload speed was wireless. In which case normal upload speed on your wired test has confirmed the problem is associated with wireless - a known problem on the TG585v8 with some (unidentified) hardware configurations.
Jojo should be able to sort this out for you tomorrow. Smiley

Re: Slow upload

The published results were also wireless. Getting a wired test isn't do-able. I did run a speedtest using the PS3s in-built test (which is wired) and that produced similar results.
Just ran another and it's not changed much so hopefully it was just a blip and the re-boot has helped.

Re: Slow upload

Hi Leeheyes,
I'll see if I can dig out a TG585v7 for you, this will resolve that.

Re: Slow upload

JoJo
like I said, hopefully it was just a blip. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days before we have to go down the next step of another router. Thanks for your help though  Smiley
