Recently went live (I think less than a week).
Just took the plusnet speed test and got this:
Download Speed : 6096 kbps (762kB/s)
Upload Speed: 333 kbps (41.6kB/s)
I work from home as a graphic designer and just had to wait 30 minutes to upload a 16mb file.

That said, it should have taken less than 10 minutes to upload a 16 MB file at the speed in your speedtest result.

21CN is the latest DSL network in use at the moment and can offer download speeds of up to 8 or 24mb and an upstream of up to around 1mb.
By default the upstream for this is 448kbps with us, I've placed an order for you to uncap that to around 1mb tomorrow. With regards to the downstream that is actually very close to the estimate we have for your line so I don't believe there's an issue with that side of things.

Could you clear up on issue regarding the download speeds. I thought I was told that I could get 6-13 mb/s download speed before I signed up. Did I hear that wrong, and it's actually 6-13 thousand kbps?
Because I would have thought that under a meg per second was a bit... well, 2005? Surely internet speeds have come along since then?

Strictly, your speed is 1 million times faster than you were quoted - oh, it's the usual "mb/s" (or millibits per second) rather than Mb/s (or megabits/s) that frequent these forums
Or, to put it another way, 6Mb/s is 6000kb/s

Strictly speaking, it's 6144Kbps.

I refer you to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_rate_units and the introduction of Mibs (mebibits ) to (supposedly) reduce confusion

Now I am confused. If you use any byte/bit converter, it will tell you that there 6144Kb in 6Mb.

Quote from: stayinwonderland Please stop talking about all this, this is a thread I started to find out how/if I can get faster download speeds so I can do my work.
Sorry. My apologies.

There seems to be a little confusion over the actual units here.
'under a meg a second' could mean under a megaBYTE or under a megaBIT. Headline speeds for ADSL are always in megaBITs, which is 1/8 of a megaBYTE.
So, your downstream looks about right - ~6 megaBITs giving you around 3/4 of a megaBYTE of download per second.
Upstream, as Adam has mentioned should soon been uncapped for your line. You should see an upstream somewhere approaching ~1 megaBIT per second, or around 0.125 megaBYTEs per second in ideal conditions.
The only feasible way to increase your upstream will be if Fibre is available at your property, which is the next generation of Internet speeds available in the UK. This will give you a theoretical max speed of 80 megaBITs down (or, 10 megaBYTEs) and 20 megaBITs up (or 2.5 megaBYTEs).
Hope that helps
B.
