Re: Slow speeds

Hello Matt,
Thanks for the answer just a case of  waiting a see what happens with my connection and download speeds as only having 4.33mb in the first place then now dropping to under 3.00mb would be a big disappointment
Once again thanks everyone for your support and advice.

Re: Slow speeds

I think a SNR reset to 9db (keeping interleaving on) would be worth a try with those figures.
NB The FEC errors are where interleaving has corrected errors on the fly without data being retransmitted.

Re: Slow speeds

If the noise margin is reduced you will sync at a higher speed.
My comment about the FEC errors was to point out that in the 2+ days, 112,088 times interleaving has intervened and corrected errors - so interleaving is doing it's job in keeping the line more stable.

Re: Slow speeds

OK started to understand a little more each time I post, just another question don't the noise margin correct it's self what I mean is reduce its self or does a snr rest have to be necessary ? what if in the future my noise margin goes up again will I have to ask for another snr reset?
Sorry for all the questions just trying to understand if future problems arise.
Thanks.

Re: Slow speeds

Yes it will adjust itself - but it can takes weeks of stability to do so.
I would suggest that if you haven't already done so, you install RouterStats. You'll need to keep an eye on the noise margin graph and look out for significant drops in the noise margin. If you do get continuing issues that may help identify what is causing them. The first thing to do when you see a dip is to check if the phone is still clear.

Re: Slow speeds

Just had a look at this, Jelv's suggestion may well increase the speed slightly (by around 500kb/s or so) but I didn't realise you had an intermittent fault open - the line is still dropping at least once per day:
<img src="http://community.plus.net/visualradius/generated/image13910779874107.png"/>
As such I'm not convinced you'd get the best speed out of a reset as things stand. Well worth waiting until the fault is resolved and then we'll get it done for you.
EDIT: Try 7-zip - http://www.7-zip.org/download.html it's completely free and my archive manager of choice Smiley

Re: Slow speeds

I believe it'll work with all versions from XP onwards, just make sure you only get the 64 bit version if you have a 64 bit version of Vista. If you're not sure just get the 32 bit version, it'll work on both Smiley

Something strange here as the router is showing a continuous sync of  2 days 8 hours. It would appear therefore that the drops may shown above may be PPP drops only (e.g. disconnect.connect used on the router interface). If that is the case that doesn't mean the line is unstable and dropping sync.
@Den Can you explain the drops shown on the chart?

Re: Slow speeds

Hello jelv
I can't  shed any light on the drops but can confirm that  during the times shown I'm the only person at home at that time so no one else can power down the router.
Still can't get router stats to work on my laptop?

Thanks
Den.
