Re: Slow speeds

There you go, progress Wink  When the update is all complete etc (you'll have to wait and see when) post up the new DSL Stats.

Re: Slow speeds

Actually that's looking somewhat better, mainly because of the speed you are getting with the 6dB margin. BUT irritatingly you are 96kbps short of the 4.5Mbps profile.
Certainly don't do anything anytime between an hour before sunset and an hour after sunrise, but in daylight hours (around middayish is often best) - IF the SNRM is steady and better than say 6.4dB it would be worth a resync to see if you can get the speed to 5120 or a touch higher. There's not much point in it being much higher on 20CN, it would have to go to 5696 to get a 5Mbps profile and I would say the SNRM would drop too low at night that your line may get unstable.
If you see this post this evening, post the current stats so we get an idea of what you line is like after dark.

Re: Slow speeds

Sync speed is a bit lower than last time. Did you reboot sometime around 5.20 pm yesterday or possibly have a power dip?

Re: Slow speeds

I'd definitely recommend doing as Anotherone suggested and check the downstream SN margin around midday. If it's 6.4dB or better try a resync.

Re: Slow speeds

Well at present, the error rate looks pretty good, but it does look as though the SNRM is today rock solid at around 5.9dB so a re-sync would be pointless.
All in all things look promising.

Re: Slow speeds

Router stats posted again, how does the sn margin 5.9bd work the lower the number the better or vice versa?
Sorry still learning

Re: Slow speeds

As the sync speed increases the noise margin decreases. You also have the variability as you've seen.
When the modem syncs with the exchange they negotiate the fastest sync speed possible until the noise margin is at the target (6dB in your case). If you were to resync now the sync speed would be slower with the margin back at 6dB, but during the day tomorrow you would see it rise well above 6. That's why we advise resyncing during the day when background interference is lowest as that gives the best sync speed.

Re: Slow speeds

Whether it will rise above 6 today (or anyday) will depend very much on general atmospheric conditions such that noise across the spectrum would need to be low. You may also get a small amount of cross-talk from other users on your DP and if any of them happen to turn off their modem/routers you may see the SNRM rise. You can sometimes see a similar situation with electrical/electronic equipment that has noisy power supplies.
