Re: Slow speeds since Saturday

Hi giovanni,
Your sync rate can depend on what time you reboot but at the moment you now have 5000k profile so it has increased somewhat. If you log into your router and disconnect then reconnect you will see the difference.

Re: Slow speeds since Saturday

profile is a lot better now and line appears to be more stable has anything been done to my line by BT at the exchange or is it because I'm still plugged into the Bt master socket
that my connection has settled down.
Whats the next step....can I start using my slave phone socket later in the week ?

Re: Slow speeds since Saturday

HI ggiannandrea,
If you do move it back to the other socket and it degrades then it may point to that being the issue.

If you take a note of the router stats (sync speed, noise margin and attenuation) before you move the router and then again after you've moved the router you should be able to see if using the extension socket is causing a problem. Post them here if you need help interpreting them.
PS: One common mistake made is that if you use an extension socket for the router and you have a phone (or Sky box etc) in the master socket you still need to have them connected via a filter.

Where and how do I obtain  a note of the router stats (sync speed, noise margin and attenuation) etc

I've been using the same set-up since I got broadband from you...years ago nothing has changed regarding the setup and no other phones have been added or sat stuff etc.

Re: Slow speeds since Saturday

Right, before you go trying it back in the extension socket, those stats do not look very good.
The noise margin is up at 15 which is significantly reducing your sync speed. With your attenuation it should be capable of syncing at well in excess of 7000.
I don't like the look of the number of FEC errors either.
Have you tried a different filter and/or router.

Re: Slow speeds since Saturday

This is the new Thomson router supplied by yourselves last week(prior to this I had a Netgear DG834 and a  Zyxel 660R which CS thought was the original problem) I will try another filter to see if it makes any difference for you ....filter has now been swapped across with another filter supplied with the Thomson router
I had this response from CS earlier this evening..
Dear Mr Giannandrea,
Thanks for your time on the phone earlier this evening.
As discussed, your connection has improved, however the upstream SNR is quite high.
Your fault has been raised to our supplier. Please note that they can take between 48-72 hours to provide a response.

If that was a reply to me I don't work for Plusnet - I'm just another Plusnet user like you.
That response from CS is complete and utter rubbish. When your upstream is already syncing at the maximum speed allowed (448) the noise margin will be higher than normal. (I've got an excellent line and pay extra for faster upload (832). My upstream noise margin is 14 - you are syncing slower so you should expect a higher noise margin). The higher upstream noise margin just indicates that it could sync a lot faster if it was allowed.
Your downstream sync is well below what it should be and your downstream noise margin is well above the normal 9 default - that IS a concern and is indicative of some sort of problem.
Finally all the FEC errors are on the downstream and the upstream is totally clean

Re: Slow speeds since Saturday

That's OK.
I hope one of the Digital Care team is going to find out who told you the rubbish about the upstream and have a quiet word with them.

Re: Slow speeds since Saturday

BT have completed comprehensive remote diagnostics on your service and have been unable to locate any service faults. Due to this, BT are currently requesting an appointment for an engineer to attend and review the fault from your property.
Still got the Thomson router plugged into the BT Master test socket and these are the latest......
