Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

Hi Penfold,
With regard to capacity, the next segment was due to be lit by the end of the month but we're now getting this moved forward - no dates yet, but there will be updates as soon as we know  more. That should sort things out.
As for THN-AG3 there's a thread on it here.
Hope that helps, sorry for the hassle.

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

Thanks for the update matt.  Hopefully things will improve once THN-AG3 comes back, and you light the next segment. Speeds not too bad tonight, but again the speedtesters are laggy, and actually stop halway through!!.  Upload speeds are also down tonight.  If you said the next segment should be lit by the end of the month, and you are bringing forward, then it should be in the next few days, or am I mistaken Wink

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

It should indeed (/me touches a piece of lumber) - there'll be a service status post as soon as we've got a confirmed date.

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

Can Jameseh or Orbrey confirm if download speeds are being capped at 3.7 Mbits/s at present (is this something to do with "redistributing customers between pipes"?) because I cannot get more than this at any time of day or night despite being sync'ed at 6.4 mbit/s for more than 3 days.  My BRAS profile has been 5.5 mbits/s and a week ago I managed 4.5 to 5.0 download.
I seem to be connected via the new pcl-ag02 gateway.
Thanks.

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

They certainly shouldn't be, and on checking your profile I found it to be at 4.5Mb - are you still getting the slower speeds?

Yes, I am.  See test results.  A number of tests through Speedtest.net show the same.

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

From your results there I can't see anything that looks slow for a 4.5mb profile... I realise it's dropped a bit from what it was, but unfortunately that happens over time given the infrastructure ADSL runs on.
There's only really the usual things you could try to get the profile back up - router into master socket, filters on everything etc etc.

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

I have sorted out all the wiring etc.  It is in the master socket.
Even outside busy evening times the speed recently is consistently 3700 plus or minus 100 which makes me think there is a limitation somewhere.
Are you really saying that a profile of 4.5 Mbits (with sync greater than 5.5) should never get more than 3700 kbps at any time of day or night, which is what I have tested it at recently.?

Orbrey... Could you please claify this.  I have a rock solid 4.5-5.0meg profile.  Normally usually get 4200-4300 (4500), and 4700-4800(5000).  I do not agree that the speeds decrease with time, and would welcome clarification. Last Night my speeds were fine, and tonight, much to my surprise, all OK.  I do hope this now continues, and everything gets back to normal. I can resonably expect a drop of around 400-500kbps at peak times, compared to off peak, as long as its not laggy.

It depends on the line itself - joints that move in the wind, weather related issues - it can all add up but if a fault isn't found (ie if the connection doesn't actually drop and/or the speed decreases slowly enough that the fault threshold rate is lowered to compensate rather than the sync speed dropping below it).

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

Bit of an oddity......  everything seemed fine tonight, and I was finally breathing a sigh of relief, but see the following speedtests, most recent one again stuttery.  No gold drops of note, but 2 gateways seem not to be giving stats.  Is there any issue tonight

A drop of over a meg in the space of 1/2 hr, is this classed as normal at peak times for a 5meg profile?Huh

I would say that it's normal - which BBYW package are you on?

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

Hi Barry
Thanks for the reply.  I am on Legacy PAYG.  I am now wondering If Plusnet have overstretched themselves, or is this ongoing issue with upgrading software on the edge routers causing issues. THN-AG3 has not been reporting for ages, ??is it accepting connections, as I can never get on it, and also another gateway appears to be strangely quiet as well last night. I just want things to get back to as they were, even my wife, who is normally happy when browsing is compaining sites are taking an age to load up, and it takes alot for her to complain about the broad band.

I rebooted and got connected via the ptn-ag2 gateway (as opposed to pcl-ag02) and had an immediate jump in downstream transfer speed from 3.7 to 4.2 Mbit/s but this seems to have been a false dawn as it hasn't improved despite a few rechecks at different times of day/night.
I have been resynced at 6912 for more than 80 hours, with a consistent and stable noise profile throughout of 6dB plus-minus 0.2, and an apparent BT profile of 6000 kbits/s. (See attached pictures).
Yet, I still cannot get more than 4.2 Mbit/s download.  What is wrong?  Is it in the Plusnet system?

Re: Slow speeds afternoon and evening

Hi Warmrain,
In all honesty, it's quite possible that what you're seeing is exchange congestion rather than issues with our bandwidth infrastructure.
4.2Mbps on a 6Mbps isn't actually that bad.
