Slow speeds - Noisy Line (Still not resolved!!)

Evening all  Smiley
Signed up to plusnet about a month ago and have been getting very poor speeds.

Can't even stream small videos on BBC news site.
A new line was connected by BT Openreach with new master socket but I can hear some noise on the line.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Dan

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

If you can hear noise on the line when only the phone is connected then it should be reported as a voice fault to whoever supplies the normal telephone calls
Don't mention broadband
You should also try it from the test socket with a corded phone as this will take your internal wiring out of the equation and also possible noise from the DECT phone
If you can post the stats from your router (noise margin, attenuation and speeds) that will give us a better idea what is happening

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

If you are using a Thompson router as supplied by Plusnet this link will give them http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?ce=1&be=0&l0=1&l1=0 alternatively select your router from here http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
And welcome to the forums

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

It is indeed and shows that there are problems with the line.
The things which make me assume that are
Noise margin - the default noise margin has been increased from 6dB to 15dB due to instability or massive errors.
The loss of signal - which probably doesn't reset unless the router is rebooted - is still very high for a month
Can you run the BT speedtest and report the results http://community.plus.net/library/broadband/using-the-revised-bt-speedtester/
Did you resync the router about 12 minutes before you took those stats (or disconnected it from the phone line)
Are all items attached to the telephone line filtered - this includes Sky boxes

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

We have no Sky boxes or games consoles connected only a new Siemens cordless telephone through supplied filter.
Your right Jim, I think my connection dropped out around the 12 minute mark. It seems to do that fairly often at the moment.

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

Is there any noise on the line when you have the phone only plugged in to the test socket inside the master socket? It's best if you test using a wired phone as sometimes cordless phones can make a little bit a background noise. Dial 17070 and take option 2 for the quiet line test.

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

I tried the quiet line test after reading one of Oldjim's answer in another post.
Very crackly.
How do I post the results from the BT Speedtester?
Just redid the test from earlier and got this?Huh

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

You should be able to just drag your mouse over the text of the results and copy/paste it in to a post.
The one bit we really want is the IP Profile speed.
However, if you have a crackly line you need to report that to whoever you pay for your phone rental - and don't say anything about the broadband - you must get them to fix the crackling on the line. Before you do that however I'd recommend you get hold of a second wired phone to double check (in the test socket again) that the noise you can hear is from the line not a problem with your phone.

Re: Slow speeds - Noisy Line

@jelv - the phone's with us.
@Bueller....    Bueller....    Bueller....    Bueller....    Bueller.... (sorry couldn't resist) - I've tested the line and there's no immediate faults apparent. Could you do as jelv says above please and test the line with just one wired phone in the master socket, and let us know if the line's still crackly (and also if it's constantly crackly or if it's an intermittent issue)? I'll be able to get you a fault raised if it is still noisy.
(I really hope your username is a reference to the film I'm thinking of or I'll feel really silly :))
