We're not compensated by our suppliers for downtime

That's irrelevant. If he's entitled to compensation he should get it. If you can't then clain from your suppliers that's your problem, not his.

but it looks like this hasn't been broached with us since between a fault raised towards the end of February and 25/4/13.

That is totally relevant - if you don't know about the problems you can't be expected to pay compensation for that period.

@loftybloke
FYI I've just checked the fault and can see a note has been added to show that a fault between the DP and exchange (ie outside of your premises) has been identified and should be worked on today.
Adam

Is there any update on the work done today?
Thanks

Re: Slow speed - line resistance

There's still no dialtone on the phone handset so I suspect the work yesterday wasn't successful?

Re: Slow speed - line resistance

I'm getting this chased up, due to engineering resource no engineer was sent to rectify the fault.
I'll update you as soon as I can.

Re: Slow speed - line resistance

There's an engineer currently working on this, so I'd be hopeful that this is resolved today.

Re: Slow speed - line resistance

I have checked for updates on your fault this afternoon and our suppliers have informed me that the engineer that visited the fault near your property has found a fault on the local network.
This will now have to be assigned to a local network engineer to work on which will hopefully be tomorrow.
Sorry for the delay.

Re: Slow speed - line resistance

Broadband speed has dropped to around 2.87 according to btwholesale speedtest.
Is there a reason it has become so bad all of a sudden?

Re: Slow speed - line resistance

Because you have a High Resistance joint somewhere this will have a significant and variable and unpredictable impact on the broadband. It's the full DSL stats from the modem/router one really needs to look at to get a better idea of what is happening, but as you didn't post any earlier in the thread it won't be possible to do a comparison.
