Take a look at a recent speedcheck:
-------------------------------
Download speedachieved during the test was - 106 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2784 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
------------------------------
I've recently moved from Orange, where I had around 3.5Mbps (actual download speeds of 300Kbytes/sec), but would often fluctuate from as low as 0.3Mbps up to 5.5Mbps (actual download speeds of 500Kbytes/sec). It was pretty much unworkable on Sunday evenings, and around 6-7pm most evenings, hence the move.
My move to PlusNet is recent (a couple of days) - how quickly can I expect the IP profile to start to reflect the sync rate?

You may find the poor profile has been assigned due to disconnections - dont turnoff/unplug your router during the training period to help it settle down...
Also if it does continue to act up - raise it as a fault with PN (after the first 10 days are up) and they should get an engineer out to look at it.
Slow downs over Orange are normally caused because their network is oversubscribed (and generally pretty shoddy.. ::))

I'll keep an eye on it and see where it levels out at.

I'll leave it and see if the IP profile rises, but is it possible to ask for some sort of reset?

Will take 3-5 days id expect for your IP profile to update to a higher figure, after that it may take a further 12-24 hours from this point for Plusnet's system to receive a "Delta report" - to uplift the profile at their end.
It would probably be better to look for the reason your sync dropped to 1408 in the first place, (the reason for the 1meg profile) as as soon as the profile is uplifted again, You may find that the connection becomes unstable and this process starts again (which is infuriating, trust me )

I would have thought that the profile would have lifted by now. I'm going to apply for an SNR reset to see if that kicks it into action.

My son came up with a theory that our broadband slows down whenever it's windy - we are rural with above ground phone lines. I'll take a walk along the lanes and see if there are any obvious problems with trees/branches on the lines.
My phone supplier is currently still Orange, but I am with PN from end of the month. I guess line faults all come down to BTW at some point?

Getting some bizarre results at the moment. The sync rate has dropped and the SNR keeps going up. Are you using the test socket?

I've been on test socket since I joined PN.
Modem is now sync'd at just 1200, after being up above 4M for ages. This is a different router to the last time the sync dropped.
I can't hear any interference on the phone line, but it's got to be line-related. We had wet windy weather yesterday.
