Slow broadband

Our broadband speed seems to have halved in the last few days.  Usually it's around 15Mbps but recently has been only half that speed - around 7.5-8Mbps.

There are no issues with the local exchange that I can see using the tool here http://users.plus.net/exchanges/ and the router stats appear to show that the upstream/downstream rates are 'normal' (1268/15576 which is normal for my line).

Router stats are as follows:

1 - Product name: Plusnet Router
2 - Serial number: N7170721B001318
3 - Firmware version: 7.275.6_F2704N_Plusnet
4 - Board version: F@ST2704N
5 - Mode ADSL
6 - Uptime: 1 days 16:31:24
7 - Data rate: 1267/15537
8 - Maximum data rate: 1268/15576
9 - Noise margin: 5.8/3.1
10 - Line attenuation: 12.9/29.0
12 - Data sent/received: 143.1M/1.9G

I rebooted the router a couple of days ago just to see if it made any difference but it didn't.

Can somebody look into this for us please?

Re: Slow broadband

@munkfish

You don't say how you are measuring your speed. This has to be with an Ethernet cable connection to a computer to identify whether you have a line or wireless problem.

Re: Slow broadband

The connection is measured using Ookla speed tests over a 3 day period.  The measurements are fairly consistent measuring 7.5-8Mbps each day.  The host machine doing the measurement is connected via Ethernet.

Re: Slow broadband

Fix

My problem appears to be resolved now.  After seeing another identically named topic 'slow broadband' in the last few days and the response from the Plusnet CS agent to run the broadband troubleshooter, I went ahead and started the troubleshooter and after getting to the part where I had to switch out my router for an alternative router, this appeared to fix the problem one way or another.  My speeds are now back up around 12-13Mbps which is not unacceptable, so will leave it at that.

EDIT: Switching the router back to the original works fine as well so it seems that the act of switching out the router had the effect of nudging something somewhere to reinstate normal service, maybe some profile was stuck and needed a nudge.
