Re: Slow Speed

looking at this page http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page22.htm#modlead Item 430-00312 its just a modem type lead to connect to the filter (phone) socket, perhaps Wattsy could advise what type of plug is on the other end of the lead, then just a cheap lead and do away with the extra adaptor

Re: Slow Speed

Never seen one like that before, but the good point is that you only need to connect 2 and 5. Presumably the terminals are clearly labelled - can't see that in the picture.
(and you should use "proper" twisted pair phone cable, not that awful flat stuff)

Re: Slow Speed

Hi Wattsy,
Even though the photos aren't too clear, they are IDC terminals (Insulation Displacement Connector). Hopefully they are still OK if you've been at them with your screwdriver  Lips_are_sealed
You need a little tool from B&Q, maybe PCworld, any telephony shop, Maplins etc. There are some very expensive ones around called Krone tools, but there are plastic ones available eg B&Q 40p or so. You don't need an expensive one. The generic name would be an IDC Insertion Tool.
In the meantime you can plug that 'Tamar' filter in at "the socket where you plug your sky in", taking stats as I explained yesterday. Then, you may as well powerdown the router for an hour say, and powerup  before mid afternoon say, to recover that sync speed. I won't be able to post until later on today, so I'm hoping Pierre will be able to find you a few pictures of how to use the IDC Insertion tool - he' so good at finding info, and pictures like that Smiley But in any event, there is no immediate rush for that.
@HP this is the phone lead from the sky receiver, there's no real choice about the cable apart from which it'll be filtered.

Understood that, but thought it had been extended (under the carpet?). Obviously the captive lead on the receiver isn't changeable.

Re: Slow Speed

you can use one of these on the end of the wire instead of the adaptor, you just put the wire into the end using again just 2 and 5 this from Maplins only £3.29 Order Code: BD41U the black bit is the tool,  then you dont need the "damaged" adaptor, Easy for me BUT

Now chaps, I don’t know how but I’ve managed to get the wires into the Sky adapter. Which I’m very pleased about, only problem is if I click
services on Sky it say phone not connected. But I’ve checked both ends of the sky cable, everything seems OK
Oh can I just say despite the better speed the web pages sometime are very slow to load.

Re: Slow Speed

Hi Wattsy, if you didnt use a tool and it is IDC, it is difficult to make sure that the two blades of the terminal have cut through the insulation,, did you manage to find the section on the instructions I sent,  it has very good photo of the tool in use, about 3/4 down the page.  Most of it even my wife could understand, Lucky she doesnt read this forum Grin Grin
