Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Everything on our side is set to the correct profile (7000), so there is no restriction from here being applied. I'm having an issue running a line test at the moment so I'll make a note of this post and try again later on.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Thanks Chris.
I have added some more info onto my ticket and I would really appreciate if you could get someone onto it this afternoon.
I am not happy that BTw have left me in a worse position speed wise at the moment, with what I believe to be a false positive having flagged up on the line due to the NCIF work that was carried out.
I could really do with this sorting before the weekend, and if this is not at all possible then at least some answers as to what is going on and why.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Hi again,
I've asked one of our faults specialists to take a look at this to find out what's going on.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Sorry to hear the speeds still haven't increased.
I've contacted our suppliers again and they've confirmed the profile wasn't changed properly
They've changed it again and hopefully this should sort it.
Can you reboot your router in 2 hours time and retest it?

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Hi Dan,
A full set of unedited router stats would be useful please.  Looking at the last lot, a good deal of the idea info was missing - modulation, error etc, however if you arr not using the PlusNet supplied router, such useful diagnostic information might not be available.
Looking at what stats you did post, I'm wondering why your low attenuated line is not doing somewhat better?  Why is the SNRM so high - line faults or speed banding?

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Hey Matt
Sorry for slightly over running, I was waiting for my misses to reply to my email.
Results after a 3 min switch off
10 ping
6.55
0.38
Looks like the profile issue has resolved itself hooraah. Thanks for your help, fingers crossed contention issue is now resolved.
Kevin, the max speed I have ever got on the line is 6.5xx, which to be fair has never really bothered me too much I think due to having several speed issues over the years and knowing how much of a ball ache it can be to actually get BTw to do anything. - Plusnet staff I find very good though  Wink
On my last fault from about 18months ago a plusnet chap did say that it was odd that I couldn't get nearer the max considering the line is 200m direct to exchange but he just put it down to "over heads" and I think his job was done, he had got the line from 1-2mbs to 6.5mbs and I was more than happy.  Anyway, back on track.. if you think you can assist in diagnosing any other underlying issue then I'm game.
My router is a TP-LINK N600 on the firmware it was shipped with. I'm not sure if there are any other hidden router pages that can give me any more line stats, I can't really research until I get home.

Just to throw this in, it's a 20CN line so can only hit 8128 sync maximum.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Hi Chris,
I realised that.  Cheesy
In such circumstances every 100kbps is valuable.  The question was couched in terms of why is it below the 8128 CN20 / ADSL maximum with apparently ample SNRM head room and a line attenuation which suggests it should be possible?

Dan,
We can have a go at a couple of things.  Give the thread a nudge when you get home.  One thing to look at for sure is if there is a later version of firmware and see what it lists as fixes.  We could also check out / confirm the basics have been eliminated, as it sounds like the router is not connected to the master socket.  I was round at a mates house - he has not got a power point near his master socket.  Using a power reel strewn along the hall he got 9.8Mbps rather than the 2.4Mbps where it was located.  He has compromised on 3.4Mbps at anther phone point.  Internal wiring can make a massive difference.  Shocked

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Fantastic.
Glad to see that  your speeds have improved.
Your line is syncing at 8128 from what I can see at the moment.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Well that is great news - the line is synching at full speed for ADSL - I wonder why it was not doing so before?  Huh Roll_eyes
Dan,
Can you please post as much of the data listed here - http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html - as you can please.  I suspect that (on CN20) you might have to wait a couple of days before you see the BT profile (followed by the PN profile) to go up so that you get the full data speed.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Hey
My face plate is an openreach one that they fitted 18months ago, made no difference to anything, line too short. I have two master sockets, no idea why, the first one does not work when I plug into it.
The cable into my router from the wall is it RJ11? Is shielded and high quality apparently.

I'm syncing at 8128 now but still not hitting max speed, this was the case before the contention problems and also the case after my last fault.

Again the connection is amazing now so far touch wood, 6mb is more than adequate, obviously more for free would be nice but if the issue is not clear I would be reluctant to get the BTw engineers involved incase they break something else, my experiences with them have not been great.
Kevin, I'll have a look at getting you the extra info sometime tomorrow, thanks again, it is appreciated.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Dan,
It is possible that the BT Profile (reported on the further diagnostics part of the BT Wholesale speed test) has not yet updated.  Until that happens the PlusNet profile will not update (current speed from the portal).  If the modem is synching at 8128kbps, then the profiles should be 7.15Mbps - see here - http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/broadband_terminology.shtml
The actual data transfer rate will be somewhat less than that - speed tests should be done over a wired connection with nothing else using the internet.

Re: Slow Speed since last night / this morning

Hey
Had some issues return this evening, after connection and ping being great since Friday afternoon.
Ping has been ok but speed grinded to a halt tonight
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3967491541
By 11pm speed had returned to normal.
Kev, I have been unable to get any other router stats other than the basics

On doing the diagnostic test on the BTw tester
"The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider."
