Sending email on a Mobile

I'm having trouble sending email mesages via. my Mobile Phone (Sony W850i on O2).
Have tried outgoing server as relay.plus.net but doesn't want to know.
Any suggestions?
I manage to douwnload messages OK using mail.plus.net.

You can only use relay.plus.net when connected to a PlusNet IP so you will have to use O2's SMTP server for sending.

Why don't Pusnet offer authenticated outgoing SMTP?

It's not a trivial project. We could open this up for ALL customers, but that poses a number of issues that there isn't a good answer to and at this stage we cannot do it. What we ideally need to do is make this p[tion something people can turn on via the portal, which at the last I heard was the plan, but which requires a fair amount of development work.
In the mean time, this page has the settings for all the UK networks, and you should be able to use smtp.o2.co.uk. And if that doesn't work, you might want to consider using Gmail, or a subscription service such as http://www.port995.com/
