Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

I just posted it up because Oldjim asked me to for reference purposes. ADSL2+ won't be kicking in till tomorrow apparently.
Should I try the test socket again or should I leave it till tomorrow?
Edit: Also, I collected some info yesterday, my BT line profile is 6.3 Mbps. Why is it different to the one I'm seeing in router stats? This is the info:

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

I would connect to your test socket and leave it there until your line is working properly... connecting/disconnecting can make things appear much worse.

Because the IP Profile is always 88.2% of the bandwidth figure on your type of connection. Nothing to worry about.
As has just been said, just leave things now until you expect to be on ADSL2+ :). These stats will indeed be useful for comparison.

Better! There won't be any speed restriction on all the P2P stuff they do .... ROFL!
It's a free upgrade, but it does start a new 12-month minimum term.

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

Well, the router is reporting correctly now:
Uptime: 0 days, 8:31:33
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,211 / 11,147
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 35.97 / 634.15
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.9 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 12.4 / 25.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.7

Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 71 / 324
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 58 / 852
BT Speedtester
Download speed achieved during the test was - 5.71 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 9.83 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 1.01Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps
But I'm still not seeing an real increase in download speed, it's around 6mbps or 700kb/s on Steam...

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

Your PlusNet profile probably hasn't caught up with the increase yet. What does this say https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed for Line Speed ?
Your sync is still a bit low for the reported attenuation , are you still in the test socket ? and are there any extension sockets still live when you use the test socket ?

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

Right now, no, the test socket is in the study and it's a bit of a warzone atm! Smiley I'll move it back down as soon as I can.
Plusnet is reporting my current and estimated line speed at 6mb. So I guess it hasn't caught up?
Edit: Also, not sure if this is relevant but my mum said that initially, when they emailed here the estimate, it was 4.5mb. What's up with that?

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

I've matched your profile to match your current sync speed, I'd suggest trying your test socket and see if there's any difference.

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

Thanks again for all the help guys, sorry it took so long to post this up.
It did make a bit of a difference in the test socket, here are the router stats:
Stats
Uptime: 0 days, 0:10:07
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.159 / 12.404

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,3 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 12,1 / 25,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6,2 / 6,5
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 12 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 13
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 55
BT Speedtester
Download speedachieved during the test was - 10.33 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 10.94 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.93Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps
Speedtest.net
Download - 10.75mbps
Upload - 0.97mbps
Ping - 24ms
It's running much better now! Any more profile tweaks to squeeze some more performance out or is this where it is? Regardless, I'm pretty happy about sorting this out and the great response, thanks so much for all the help! Smiley

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

That's good so far.
However as has been said, you shoudl be getting more than 12,404kbps badwidth/sync. A lot more!
On 25dB attenuation I would expect most lines to be on at least 16Mbps and good ones possibly around 18Mbps.
Edit - I made a typo there - "badwidth". Smart - I'll leave it in the circs.

Is that something that can be sorted by altering the profile?

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

No, but we need stats from the test socket. (Just to be sure, that's the one the master faceplate plugs into). If the figure is good there you have a wiring or router problem. If it's bad there you need to raise a ticket.

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

The stats above were from the test socket. This is what I'm getting at my usual socket (not the test socket):
Router stats
Uptime: 0 days, 5:01:55
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.208 / 12.647

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,2 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 12,3 / 25,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6,1 / 5,8
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 384 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 14 / 742
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 8 / 5.783
BT Speedtester

Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps
Speedtest.net
Download - 10.48 mbps
Upload - 1.03 mbps
Ping - 19ms
I'm a little surprised that the stats are this similar, but it is what it is I guess!

Re: Router reporting G.992 instead of G.992.5

Sorry for the blatant bump guys! Smiley
Was just wondering if anything else can be done to improve my speed? I think Estragon was right, isn't my sync speed a little low given the attenuation?
