Router re-booting and IP speed

I was upgraded to adsl2+ in April.

On the adsl1 I had a very stable connection Router was always on with reboots only when needed ie. Holidays, following BB outaages
and on a couple of occassions to test a backup router. The router had maintained connection for 90+ days prior to switchover.
During all this time my connection was sync rate 7616  IP profile 6000 SNR around 11db.
This gave dowloadspeeds of 5500 - 6500 depedant on time of day/computer (single/dual core /i3) and LAN or WiFi connection.
During the initial period of adsl2 there where some teething promblems all sorted by PN and advice from forum members.
In following weeks I saw regular Re-Boots almost every 48Hrs carried out around 4:00 am which I put down to initial training etc..
which after about 2 weeks my connection seemed to settle at sync of 20643 SNR 6db IP profile 18000.
BT speed test results being:- 18000 to 19500 - 330 to 340

This has held for about 5 weeks However the router has commenced reuglar reboots again at approx 4:00am.
Reconections being at:-
26/06 Sync - 21557/448  SNR -  4.0/27.5
28/07 Sync - 15323/446  SNR - 14.0/25.0
31/07 Sync - 21549/448  SNR -  4.0/29.0
2/08 Sync - 15323/446  SNR - 13.5/25.0
Current Router stats are:-

Uptime: 0 days, 11:32:48
Modulation: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 446 / 15,323
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 18.16 / 74.35
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 17.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 17.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 25.0 / 13.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 5 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 80 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 640 / 2,775
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 2,704 / 7
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 366 / 8

My IP profile dropped on the on 26/06 to 13000 from 18000 where it has remained.
I am querrying what is trigering these re-boots at what I am given to believe is not the most optimum time.
I am reluctant to re-boot myself at the recommended times to see if this will improve connection rather than the nightime boots
initiated by system as a single re-boot in 48hrs seems to trigger the BT system to drop IP profile.
I have considered turing off the modem overnight to see if this would bypass these re-boots but as I said above each single
disconnect seem to trigger a drop
in my IP profile.
Current BT speed test results being 10538 / 330
Previous tests being 18000-19500 / 330-340
Router is (non-Plusnet) speedtouch 585 v6
Connection is to master socket with BT Accelerater.
No house extensions as such line is split at socket short cable to DECT Phone base via filter.
Other line runs to filter spliting to modem and Standard home phone at Base computer nb not double filtered!
This has not changed for the last year plus.
Satelite computers are all LAN cabled to modem, option to connect WiFi needed, normally WiFi is turned off.

Would appreciate any comments from Plusnet

HI Bill,
thanks for your time going through that with me. Do let me know when you've got it set up in your test socket.

Re: Router re-booting and IP speed

Hi Bill,
I've applied for the SNR to be reset to 6dB. This should give you the best potential speeds. I'll report back once I see any difference.

Re: Router re-booting and IP speed

Hi Joanne
Just got in and checked router,  SNR is now 6db and sync up to 19785 trace attached.
Will keep set up as is and continue monitoring.
Once again thanks for you assistance.

HI Bill,
Good good, your profile will pick up once it's been stable at that rate for a time.

As stated in my earlier post non of these re-boots were initialized by myself most seem to
occur around 3:30am. I was online when 2 of these re-boot took place and took a screen shot
of the router stars graph all it shows is a drop out for 1-2 minutes then a reconnection at the new speed and NM.
These patterns of re-boots are not on a regular interval or even time which would seam to eliminate an external source at my location from initiating them.
To eliminate the possibility of my router being the source of the problem I intend to substitute the  touch 585 for my back-up a BT Home Hub 2.0.
This previously functioned well on ADSL1+ as I never experienced any loss of connectivity.
I will wait for at least 48hrs before any disconnecting/reconnecting the router also I will put the faceplate back on the master socket since direct connection
to the test socket does not make any difference.
Would appreciate your comments.

Re: Router re-booting and IP speed

The one thing I would say, Bill, is that your line seems to be more stable at a target of 12dB. Not sure why you get the reboot at 3 in the morning, but it doesn't seem as frequent as it was. I doubt it will be anything to do with the router, but you never know. One thing I could do is to hard fix your line to a 6dB profile. This would mean that when you reboot it will always attempt to sync at 6dB. This may help keep it a bit more consistent when it comes to the IP profile.

Re: Router re-booting and IP speed

Joanne thanks for your reply, I do need to put the faceplate back on the master socket so I will have to perform a shut down and re-boot.
As I do not have any extensions attached to the faceplate don't think this will have any affect on the connection criteria.
Will have the option to connect/remove an extension cable to a wired phone to see if this in fact causes effect on NM/sync.
Will do this tomorrow AM perhaps then you could try a fixed 6db NM.
I will hold off on changing router for now unless you think it may be worth eliminating the possibility of the Speedtouch causing the problem.
Must point out that at this time I always get a speed of 12000+ which is realistic for most internet activity, obviously it would be nice to get back
to the 18000 area but lets see how things progress. As an aside would in be worth considering uncapping the upload speed? have held off
as I dont want to possibly further destableize the connection.
Should complete re-boot by noon tomorrow, can then fix the noise margin as you suggested.
Hope to here back from you Tks  Bill R Smiley

Re: Router re-booting and IP speed

Hi Bill,
I'd say that the 18000 is unrealistic really. A different router could give you more stability, although I once swapped my Thomson for a Netgear DGN2200 and got a much lower sync. It all really is trial and error. I looked into fixing the profile but we've not got the facility to do that any more I'm afraid, so not sure what to suggest there. I'll ask around and see what I can come up with.
