Personal preference, I like new. Beside, I could only borrow what Bob is offering instead of just taking - along with what I've said about my usual opinion of BT stuff. Oh, and yes, I, Mr. Magpie am easily tempted by shiny things. As to the pennies, they are already saved. It would just mean holding off on the new TV and hoping that my current (very young) one can last just a little bit longer in its current, shakey state - though I am VERY worried it won't. :S

The Asus RT-N56U does not contain an ADSL modem, it's just a router. People here are mainly using it with a fibre modem. But in theory you could put the 582n into bridge mode so that the 582n just acts as a modem.

Oh blimey, I wasn't aware of that at all. :S As to the TG582n, I'd prefer to eliminate that completely.

Is Bob sending the old HH?
I'd try that to see if a different router does help with the various issues first (if you know that a new router will solve problems then you know where you stand).
All these fancy routers are great if you need several wireless devices connected and all accessing the internet at the same time but a more basic (but solid and reliable) piece of kit may do the job for less (even if not so shiny )

lol I know, I know. I'm a fool for the shiny. Thank you for the 'reprimand', as it were. So, yeah, I am going to borrow the HH from Bob. Borrow from Bob? Bob's borrowing? Bob's Broadband Borrowing? Sorry, excuse me. lol Maybe I am being a bit precipitous in looking for another router. Honestly it's because deep inside I AM convinced the one I have is ... wonky.
