It's not quite as 'simple' as you say and is something that as well as requiring more hardware (as the load is very much increased) it would also require a significant amount of development and QA time.
It is something we're looking at and we do have plans to introduce Auth SMTP at some point - that's for sure - but nothing is finalised and penned in yet.
