Sorry to hear about the problem. I've run some diagnostics which don't show any obvious problems. The speed profile is correct and the connection is stable from our point of view.

A lot of the time I get this:

When it finally does manage to connect I get 10.38Mb download and a ping of 38ms. But why so many disconnects?

We're not seeing a significant number of disconnects from here but the speeds do sound like what we'd expect you to get at present.
I'd advise heading to http://faults.plus.net as the next step in order to report that with us formally.
