Re: broadband speed

Split off to its own topic - it is never good practice to jump into a problem thread with a separate question

Re: broadband speed

@nmorris85: About that really, apart from the odd one the speed estimates are usually pretty good. Allow some margin for error though Wink

Re: broadband speed

It tends to report below the speed you might see from other testers. The crucial thing the BT diagnostic tells us is the IP Profile.
If you just want to see how fast your line can go use the Spped Test (beta), http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/, http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html or speedtest.net (there's a link to the Plusnet Community speedwave on speedtest.net in my signature).

Please post the full results from the BT speed checker - diagnostic version - and also the Current Line Speed from https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: broadband speed

It would be good if you could post what jelv has stated from the BT speed checker.
I've checked over your account and your IP profile and it all seems to be matching up and you should be seeing speeds of 17MB/s, are you connecting wired or wireless?

Re: broadband speed

Hi chris,
This is what the latest test just told me, with a wired connection:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 2.04 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 16.37 Mbps

That's some very varied results, I've running some checks on your line and see we'll see where to go from there.

Re: broadband speed

What do you get from http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/ Could you also run http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics please.
I think this and the other thread are pointing to the idea that we should totally disregard the actual speed reported by the old BT speed test!

Re: broadband speed

I've run quite a few checks on your line and everything appears OK on your line, so it's I'm currently doing a bit more intrusive testing. Have you been able to try a speed test on another computer?
