I assume you are on a max or LLU connection, otherwise that tool will never show the correct info and for some you won't have the icon either.

Hi
I hadn't looked at this in ages. Mine now says that my connection speed is 500kbps! My router says 3774, speed test says similar. What's gone wrong with the tool.

Nothing is wrong with the tool, it is reflecting what BT have set on your line. Remember a drop is sync results in a drop in IP profile within 75 minutes but it takes 3 -> 5 days before it recovers after you sync at your normal rate again.
If you keep resyncing at different speeds then you will always have a problem with getting the best IP profile for your line.
