Glad to see Chris has picked it up and things are still moving though, hope tomorrow's Boost engineer gets things sorted. Fingers crossed.

Re: Rather strange issue. Ticket 64738430

3 OpenReach visits now.
All 3 did exactly the same basic line tests.
All 3 said my line is perfect.
I know that.
I have a on/off fault that is obviously hard to find, and doing a simple line test, messing up my line settings, then ticking the job as sorted is not very helpful at all.
Yesterdays visit was interesting though, 2 guys turned up, 1 training.
So when the trainer popped to his van, I decided to question the new guy.
He let slip that the last 2 engineers did not check the roadside box OR visit the exchange, even though they promised me both had checked out as fine.
I asked if he would be checking the cab, he said no, because BTOR instructed them to check the property.
He also told me that BTOR will not allow them to physically change/update equipment until atleast visit 4 due to budget constraints.
You can imagine my reply to this.
The trainer then came back, and said he had decided to have interleaving switched back on and my SNR reduced back to 3, because that will fix it.
I told him he must be joking, and that after each 3 visits, my connection has been worse AFTER they leave than before, as they mess up the line settings.
My line has been set to 3Down/6Up SNR and no interleaving for years without any issue.
Originally I was getting a down sync of just over 17meg, and upload of 1.1meg
I now get a max 14.5down, 440up thanks to BTOR.

When they left yesterday, they said 'All fixed'
I said  'See you in a few days'.
Quite obviously my problem is not fixed:

Re: Rather strange issue. Ticket 64738430

Well yesterday the internet was perfect again.. (apart from the low sync speed caused by BTOR messing up the line settings).
I got home from work an hour ago though, to find the other half saying the internet was unusable all morning, the xbox was unable to go online, no iPlayer, even the speed tests wouldn't run.
I did  quick check:

And on a different server:

BT Speedtest:

FAQ

1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Download  Speed
4.81 Mbps

0 Mbps 21 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 4.81 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 14.27 Mbps
2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
Upload Speed
0.3 Mbps

0 Mbps 0.83 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.3Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

I find the fact BTOR find a speed anywhere in the rang of 4 - 21 meg as an acceptable connect.
Basically they are saying you get what you get so be greatful!
And finally my router stats:
System Up Time 07:33:06
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 1359334 1970893 0 11453 120769 04:26:24
LAN 10M/100M 1381300 1229475 0 6700 5591 07:33:02
WLAN 11M/54M/300M 0 0 0 0 0 07:32:31
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16179 kbps 440 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 14.6 db
Noise Margin 3.6 db 30.4 db
The short up time is due to my SNR downstream being adjusted down to 3, and my router doing on auto reboot.
However, the PPoE connection drops out a few times every day.

All tests are done with no other equipment in the house connected to the internet, via a wired connection.
The router has been tested, and is fine, BTOR have checked the socket my router is connected to and the signal is identical as recorded at the test socket.

Thought a few random speed tests might help.. but it seem's today the fault is hanging around instead of disappearing.

Re: Rather strange issue. Ticket 64738430

BTOR have just left.
The guy was lovely, and really helpful.
He simply could not believe that all the other 'engineers' did was a line test.
He checked every contact point between my router and the exchange.
When he left here, his equipment was showing 6000 errors per minute, when he came back, the readings now show zero for everything.
He said the connections in the cab were awful, so he renewed them, he also checked up the pole, and reattached the line.
He said the only thing to do now if the fault comes back, is a lift and shift.
He said he switched off interlieving, and reset the SNR, I explained the line is fine set at 3, but he said BTOR guide lines tell him he must reset it, and apologised for doing so, and suggested requesting it changed via PlusNet after the 10 day DLM.
So, at the moment the line is showing zero errors, and he said it's about the best line he has seen in the area.
I will keep an eye, and hope the fault has been put right!
Thank you so much for keeping on top of this, it really is appreciated.

Re: Rather strange issue. Ticket 64738430

Glad to hear, sounds like a positive engineer visit.
Let us know how it goes and we'll take a look the SNR after the 10 day training period.

Re: Rather strange issue. Ticket 64738430

Your ticket is in my personal pool. I'll take a look over your line this afternoon and I'll let you know what I find and I'll also grab those engineer notes.
Glad to hear that the visit went well though Smiley
