Puzzling TBB ping monitor

Noticed this past couple days some puzzling activity on one of my Plusnet accounts.  The attached graph suggests to me there is some high usage going on, but it's only when no one is in that building.  The VMBU for the account suggests otherwise.  I did a check on the wifi security and checked what devices was connected and there was nothing that I could see that I didn't know.
Yesterday the Ping graph looked normal whilst I was in the building and then it looks as if not long after I left it started up again,  I went back about an hour later and did a couple of speed tests which were typical for the line  and switched wifi off totally, leaving only a vodafone sure signal connected to the technicolor router which will be the next thing I will try disconnected to see if that alters in the graphs.
In the mean time I am slightly puzzled, as it stopped around midnight, and now has started up again around 10am.
Line syncs at 8128/448 on adsl max, and is fed from a pole right beside the building but is due to be moved underground, and the line sounds reasonably clear.  Will get full line stats next time I am past in case those can help highlight anything.  Filter is an nte2000

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

Just to make sure - is that definitely your IP for the TBB?
Do you have DMZ set up to a wireless device? Your base ping looks very high there.

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

Yeah checked the IP is correct, and no dmz.  Yeah base ping is absolutely awful and I am hoping that will change with the move to the underground line.  Since 7 pm yesterday there has been no wifi and only device connected is the vodafone sure signal which at the moment is the only cable connection to the router.
Here is Friday and Saturdays graphs as well.

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

Can you do a ping test to bbc.co.uk (Start > run > cmd (Enter) > ping bbc.co.uk)?
Edit: I take it your exchange is not 21CN yet?

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

Can't do that just now as I am away from the building again.  Did one last night and they were 56/58ms which is about standard for that line sadly.
Yeah exchange hasn't been upgraded for 21CN and there is no plans for 21CN, unless it comes along with FTTC and FTTP in December.

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

It is a bit of a mystery.
Do you have many machines running behind the network? Would it be possible to turn them all off and see what happens?
That is a high ping for such a good line - I assume this is down to the fact that you're on an older 20CN exchange.

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

There is nothing connected to the router today (actually pulled the cat5 out from the router) and wifi is switched off so it was sitting with just the router connected to the line on its own.
On a normal day there is usually at most 2 machines and possibly a couple of iPads or iPhones at any given time so it doesn't get heavy usage.  The graph from Friday from 8am to 6pm is what it normally looks like when the broadband is in use.

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

The only explanation I can is that your graph is reflecting busy traffic at your exchange - do you ever notice varying speed test results?

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

It could be that, but I did a speed test around 7.30 on Saturday night and it reported 7.1Mbps which is better than what I get on my home connection which is on the same exchange and is BBQM for that.

Re: Puzzling TBB ping monitor

And just after midnight it returns to normal so I am beginning to think that it may be exchange being busy

And a speed test at 10pm
Is there anyway to find out if there is any congestion at the exchange?  The exchange checker on usertools gives green. Exchange is NSSNS
Also it looks like interleaving might be on this line, but the stats in my opinion look good so would it be possible to try interleaving switched off?
