Public IP address changes every day

Hi,
Have a problem with the public IP address changing every day.
I dont want a static IP address, but is there a way to at least make it so that it doesnt change every day.
Thanks

Re: Public IP address changes every day

Don't disconnect!
For best speeds it's recommended to leave your router on 24x7 anyway.

Re: Public IP address changes every day

Hi Jelv, the router is always switched on, never switched off.
Is there a setting in my router that i need to change?

Re: Public IP address changes every day

How long does the router say for the WAN up time? IP addresses are only changed on a new connection.
Have you checked that your router doesn't have a connection timeout set?

Re: Public IP address changes every day

Which router do you have
If it is the Plusnet one then look at Event Logs

[quote=ls123]a problem with the public IP address changing every day
Why is that a problem to you ?, when you specifically don't want a static IP address.  Huh

Re: Public IP address changes every day

Hi ls123,
Your IP address only changes when there's a connection drop. As you can see from the graph below this has only chaned twice in the last eight days.

Re: Public IP address changes every day

Hi Joanne,
Thanks for your reply.
I am in the development team for software company. The only people who can access the software/site are people who have their ip address enabled meaning no one else can access the site/software.
With the problem i am having, it means everytime i try to access this from home, i have to contact the developers to enable the ip address i am at.
So far everytime i have tried to access the site, it does not allow me as my IP keeps changing, therefore i know that my IP address is changing every day as i need to find it everytime i need to access it.
Joanne, im sure if you look at my previous posts it will tell you that each time i have posted, there is a new IP address (if there is a function to see that).
If your system says that my connection has dropped twice in the past eight days, it means there is a setting on my router which is expiring the IP, no?

Re: Public IP address changes every day

I have checked in the system, and your posts on the 26th and today are both from the same IP address but earlier ones aren't
To summarise
IP address 1 - posts on 26th Dec and 29th Dec
IP address 2 - post on 27th Dec
IP address 3 - post on 24th Dec
IP address 4 - post on 21st Dec

Could your "development team" use DDNS ?

Re: Public IP address changes every day

Why don't you want a static IP? I've had the same one for a number of years and it's never caused me any issues.

Re: Public IP address changes every day

Hi ls123,
Just log into your account and in the add-on section add static IP for a one off £5.00 charge, you won't have this problem then.
Sorry, just realised you're on Value, static IP not available on there, my bad Sad
