Profile raised again please

Once again Plusnet has my profile at 4500 and BT has it at 5000!  I know that my sync speed dropped a few times but what I don't understand is BT hasn't yet lowered my ip profile but as soon as I was syncing at the lower speed Plusnet lowered my profile at their end. I thought Plusnet changed the profile according to what BT had?  Anyhow I was wondering if I could have it raised again?  Many thanks  Smiley

Re: Profile raised again please

The BT systems are showing 4500, can you post a BT speed test result? Smiley

Re: Profile raised again please

Hi Jojo.  As you can see my ip profile is 5000, which it has been for weeks.  This happened last week, Plusnet lowered it to 4500 even though it was still at 5000 with BT.

Re: Profile raised again please

For a sync speed of 5504kbps the IP Profile should be 4500kbps which Jojo said was the value reported by the BT systems. So it looks like there is a mismatch across the BT systems.
Sadly I imagine the values will be reconciled at 4500kbps unless you have scope to achieve a sync speed of 5696kbps (current noise margin around 1½dB above the target value).

Re: Profile raised again please

I'm aware my sync speed is too low for a 5000 ip profile but for some reason it's syncs at about 5900 in the morning and then lowers by evening. Has anyone any idea what causes this?

Re: Profile raised again please

It is normal for noise margin to vary between daytime, evening and after dark. Electrically induced noise tends in increase when people come home from work and turn on equipment needed to sustain modern life. After dark environmental issues cause more radio frequency noise (one can often receive foreign AM broadcasts, for example). Since the signal strength does not change, increased noise leads to reduced noise margin. This makes it more difficult for the modem to 'hear' the signal. However the target value and router/modem performance normally allow a small reduction in noise margin (1 or 2dB) to be accommodated without sync being lost. If sync is lost the the sync speed will be lower (to restore noise margin) when sync is regained.
Is your router one that works with the RouterStats monitor, eg the Thomson TG585v7 or v8 supplied by Plusnet?

Re: Profile raised again please

I'm using the netgear N300.  Not sure if it works with routerstats, I'll check tho.

Yes it is Smiley  Do you think I should keep an eye on my stats for a few days?

Re: Profile raised again please

Now you have a reasonable sync speed supporting an IP Profile of 5000kbps I suggest avoiding router restarts for as long as you can.
Checking on how noise margin varies with time would be useful, in case the value drops low enough to cause loss of sync. RouterStats provides constant monitoring if you can get it to work with that model of router. This post provides a guide to configuring RouterStats.

Re: Profile raised again please

Hi su4stu,
The line's now syncing at 6080 but it's only been connected for 16 hours so far. It'll need to be a little longer before the IP profile picks up.

Re: Profile raised again please

That's my router had a steady connection of 5856 kbps for 76 hours now.  BT has had my ip profile at 5000 for ages but Plusnet still has it at 4500.  Huh  Could you raise it for me now please.  I've posted my latest results from BT below.

Hi su4stu,
This is part of a problem we have raised with our supplier. I'll keep you informed when we have more information.

Re: Profile raised again please

Thanks Jojo.  Is this to do with usage allowance or a line problem?
